I tried to find the official # of haitians applied fot TPS from other sites and found out no more than a total of 100,000.But the USCIS claims they have done average 100,000 TPS cases every month. Unless The United States is giving TPS to the haitian population back home, this does not make any sense. How did all of these people get over here? Howcome it's not reported elsewere?

From here: http://dashboard.usc...e=6&charttype=1

Looks like they had 112,000 I-821 (TPS) petitions in September, 114,000 in August. Says on their site they have done 84,000 so far in September and 70,000 in August...hopefully they will be caught up enough within a week or so to get back to pumping out I-129Fs because they are behind on those now.

Haiti are the majority, but not the only countries citizans in the US applying for TPS at the moment. Nicaragua and Sudan are also on the list.

Having said that, i think your research of the total number of Haitians to have applied for TPS is a gross underestimate.

Supposedly, they are giving priority to haitian TPS, not all nations. So, the number of TPS being worked on at vermont should be Haitian TPS. If you follow the threads, filers here on VJ have been concerned with Haitian TPS, no other. Could it be that the USCIS is dealing with ' TPS in general' and not 'Haitian TPS'. If true, where did we, on VJ got the idea it was Haitian TPS in the first place?

Ameribrit is correct about the other nations being able to file TPS's right now, though I would say that most on VJ got the idea that the Haitian's are causing an influx on TPS's is due to the problems recently going on in Haiti, as well as that one article in the NY Times which stated the Obama Admin was giving 130k~ Haitians already here illegally the ability to get TPS's to send $ home (which most won't).

If you notice also the huge influx occured right around the same time they announced they would extend Haitian TPS until January 2011. So add that influx with the influx of Work Auth. petitions (around October is when Work Auth. petitions are filed) with USCIS sending 99% of them to VSC and we get the backup we have now.

At first people on VJ believed TPS was all about haitians, infact filers here were expressing their frustrations by sending letters to Senators specifially using the word 'Haitians' remember? Now, you're telling them it's just a majority. Unless you can come up with a genuine number...you can not say majority. Even if the TPS were majority haitians, we should not say Haitian TPS---It's TPS.

What difference does it make which country is getting more TPS preference compared to others? The fact is, that it appears that the USCIS is switching to adjudicating the TPS while the fiance based petitions are slowed down. I recall a few posts asking why and they "assumed" it was that Haiti was getting preference because of all the TPS rumors being thrown around. It was the fact that people felt their rights were being violated by the TPS preference. I don't think it ever was a Haitian thing.

Please don't take this the wrong way but if there were rumors that Nicaragua was getting the TPS preference, people would be upset about that too. But making posts that keep bringing the Haitian thing up is what keeps making it a Haitian thing :)

Basically it sucks for those going through Vermont at the moment. It will be interesting to see what the numbers are for october.

The I-821 graph backs up everyones thoughts, here on VJ, that the majority of these TPS applications are from Haitians. The disaster happened in January, and a couple of months after that the applications start rolling in. At first the service centers where able to cope with the demand, but then it all got out of control. Spousal and fiance(e) petitions were shelved and allowed to go up to the maximum recommended processing time, before even being looked at. People with petitions going over the 5 month are now being told by USCIS that they have to wait longer, basically they are moving the goal posts.

Whilst i have no problem with the US Government supporting the Haitian people, the fact that they have shelved the petitions of American tax paying citizens is what annoys most here on VJ.

Typically there are, on average, 3500 I-129F petitions going through Vermont each month. Surely they can work that small amount into their workload

Anybody that works in the United States pays taxes. Bought a coke? paid taxes. Rode the bus? paid taxes. paid the electricity bill? paid taxes. Filing for temporary protected status only applies to those folks that are already living here in the US and guess what, paying taxes. What annoys me is the superiority complex of US citizens. Can't believe we find anti-immigration mentality here on VJ.

Its not an "anti-immigration mentality"... its a frustration over TPS petitions getting top billing over Fiance based petitions! If the USCIS/VSC kept the same amount of processing time for the K-1 type petitions from earlier months instead of going to an all stop that it is at now... we wouldn't have a problem.

And as far as a superiority complex...well after 24 years of Military Service to this Great Nation all I would like is a little bit of equal opportunity! The line started back 5 months ago I figured I'd at least see the counter by now!!!!

No "anti-immigration-mentality" here. Just frustration at a broken system.

You clearly have no idea what you are taking about. When US citizens get hosed and thrown to the back of the pack for non-citizens applying for TPS, we are going to have a problem with that. The reason? We are citizens with rights and the TPS people are NOT citizens and have NO rights. Most other countries around the world support their citizens first, everybody else comes second. It's about time our country does the same. I hope that is easy enough to understand :)

When the immigrant that you sponsor attempts to naturalize they will learn that the Constitution of the United States protects all people living on United States territory. Documented, undocumented, greencard holder, etc. Perhaps you missed 6th grade history??

One more thing. What is this thing about "superiority complex"? Have you ever been outside the US? Seriously? You want to see superiority complex, travel to Asian countries or European countries and you can find superiority complex there. What is wrong with Americans standing up and fighting for what they believe is right? Citizens of other countries show plenty of pride in their countries so why can't Americans?

Again, review the rights provided to all People residing in US territory. WE ALL have the right to petition our government, citizen and non-citizen alike. We all wait our turn, first-come first-serve; UNLESS there is someone who has a great need. When I refer to a "superiority complex," I am referring to the idea that just because one has a valid passport they believe they have a greater right to petition our government than someone else.

Who plus 2ed this rant? Hell your rant is WRONG. As the TPS's were given to ILLEGAL HATIANS already here. Look it up, it was published in the NY Times and many other news organizations.

Last time I checked illegals DONT pay taxes.
