Middle Initial Issue on Green Card

hi all. i know it's late to ask this now but i am asking anyway for further clarification.

first of all, i am from the philippines so we do the middle name different from the US. our last name when we were single becomes our middle name after we get married. so with that in mind please read on.

i have two (first) names A*** Z*** and my middle name (my last name when i was single) is Y** and my married name is A*****

on my gc, it says NAME A*****, A*** Z (initial only)

but at the bottom of the card where you see all those <<< kind of code things it says: A*****<<A***<Z***<Y**

do you guys think this will be a problem? because in all my paperworks like passport, SSN and all the applications i sent to USCIS i always put the Y** under the middle name/initial. SSA got my name right so i don't have an issue with my middle initial/name there. it's only my gc that says Z is my middle initial. i mean the code things at the bottom of the card got all my names right, it's just the middle initial at the top that is wrong because they made the Z the initial instead of the Y. at first i thought nothing of it and i figured that there was not enough space to write everything since my last name A***** has 8 letters and first name A*** has 5 letters... what do you think? blink.gif

i suddenly just got worried unsure.gifunsure.gif i need your input guys helpsmilie.gif especially from those who had the same issue. thanks!

hmm i got confused there ... cant you post it as full? instead of having dots? or is it that sensitive to you that you cant post it at all? or atleast put something close like doing a JANE DOE name instead of the dots. >< its hard to fill in the blanks.

Sorry about that. I actually got confused myself

Let's say my name is Maria Clara Santos Rodriguez.

My gc says: NAME Rodriguez, Maria C

But at the bottom of the card where there are <<< it says Rodriguez<<<Maria<Clara<Santos... Which has all the names right.

I kinda thought that they ran out of space there that's why they only put the C. But now I find myself worrying.

I don't think you should have a problem...if in doubt the last line shows your full and correct name anyway.

I anticipate a similar situation, and to complicate things, I have THREE first names

Dec 05, 2011: Received U.S. permanent resident status (AOS based on K-1 visa)

Dec 16, 2013: Removal of conditions on green card

Apr 28, 2015: Became a U.S. Citizen

I have two first names also. Let's say it is Jennifer Jane Ramos Jones.

After thinking about it, I went with the American naming convention, which is Jennifer Jane Jones (where Jennifer is the first name, Jane is the middle name and Jones is the family name). In the Philippines, my IDs and official documents would have read: Jennifer Jane Ramos Jones or Jennifer Jane R. Jones (where Jennifer Jane is my first name, Ramos is my middle name, and Jones is my family name).

How did you fill up your forms when you adjusted status? That could be a factor.

I wouldn't worry about it, though...that is how names are written here (which means I am stuck with my first name...also my Mom's first name, which for me has always felt too formal :P...I prefer my middle name, really...no disrespect to my mom, i love her very much, I just want to be known as me, you know? lol).

Later when you apply for citizenship, then you will have to decide how you want your name to appear...either use the American naming convention or the Philippine naming convention.

Thanks for the input Page11 :-)

My son has a few middle names... on the front of his card it says... Jon L sanred but I the back it says his full name sanred <<Jon lawrence phil so I wouldn't worry to much about it they probably did just run out of space..btw that is not my childs name just threw some together haha

oohhh! thank you so much for the input guys. you have all been very helpful.

thanks Canadiandggal. basically how they did my card was how they did your son's too. i feel so much better now blush.gifyes.gif that was what i originally thought... that they just ran out of space considering that my last name has 8 letters, and then i have 2 first names (10 letters in all) and then the middle name! biggrin.gif

marriedtomrg, i remember you!! how is it going? smile.gif

anyway, when i filled out all my immigration papers i always put "Santos" (example) under middle name. and i will have to think about the naming thing. i am not sure if i want to follow the american or philippine naming convention. i still have about a year to do the removing of conditions so i have a year to think about it smile.gif

thanks again you guys! star_smile.gif
