My fiance and I are getting married next week. I am on a tourist waiver program (I'm Canadian)and though we were engaged, I had no idea this was going to happen this quickly! That being said, I have the marriage license and such, but after we're married I'm changing my name. Should I go to the Canadian Embassy in Washington DC and get them to change my passport so it's updated? What about my Canadian Social Insurance Number? Should I get them to change my name on that too? Or as I'm going to be living down here, does none of this matter? I'm thinking the Passport matters as I don't think anyone who isn't a citizen of the US can obtain a US Passport; am I correct? Thanks everyone, I really want to do this right the first time!

Also - As I will be adjusting my status, can I go to the USCIS office in Fairfax, VA and submit it to them personally, or must I mail it?

Canada is not part of the visa waiver program... they are visa exempt.

You need to follow the guidelines in the attached link. It is not required for you to change your passport name. It's your choice.

There is no need to change that, either. You can if you want to, though.

Correct

Also - As I will be adjusting my status, can I go to the USCIS office in Fairfax, VA and submit it to them personally, or must I mail it?

You can't do anything in person. It has to be submitted following the guidelines.

You'll want to visit the Canada Regional Forum for Canada-specific advice. Also check the link on my signature for immigrating Canadians.

As you are not adjusting from a family-based visa I am moving your thread to the AOS from Other Visa forum. You'll want to do a lot of reading in there.

You sure have a lot of work to do...get going with the reading on here as suggested. You might be surprised it isn't a piece of cake changing from just a tourist Canadian to adjusting status and remaining in the USA.
