If you are in the USA, then yes I just found out that you will get a receipt # that you can follow on the case status website. I just got mine yesterday :)

Please keep us informed if any information changes or you just see the case number but nothing else. It is my understanding there is really no "case" tracking of I601 simply a number for state-side adjudicated cases and on some overseas embassy websites they list a little more info, like if its pending, denied or received.

USCIS has said they want to have a case-status-online system up this year for I601, not sure how that will be implemented.

 I was able to get a case status on the uscis website. right now it says inital review, when i first logged on it said Acceptance. and it also updates "touch" I just checked it now and its been updated from 1/6/11 to now 1/14/11 the next progress is a decision then post decision activity. so its like the other applications. I also get email and text updates.

this is what is currently says- so it is giving me something to go by!

Initial Review

On December 29, 2010, we received this I601 APPLICATION TO WAIVE EXCLUDABILITY, and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something from you. If you move while this case is pending, please use our Change of Address online tool to update your case with your new address or contact our customer service center at 1-800-375-5283.

During this step, USCIS initiates the background checks of the applicant/petitioner and identifies issues that may need to be addressed either during an interview or by asking the applicant/petitioner to submit additional information or documentation. USCIS reviews the applicant's/petitioner's criminal history, determines if there are national security concerns that need to be addressed, and reviews the application/petition for fraud indicators

Hi Jen,

Yea, I had the same thing as you after I put in my receipt number, was able to watch for a touch and update. When my I-601 was approved the blue dot jumped from initial review to post decision activity hence missed a step....hmmmm...

Jen,

I got an email notification plus a letter in the mail. Now I need to wait for my Passport request then submit it and wait for it to come back. Once I have that back I can enter the US and submit my paperwork to begin production of the green card.

Well thanks for reporting back on that. I guess Vermont is "on-line" the parts where USCIS has the application, and hopefully they will eventually tie in the Embassy part so you can actually know where your packet is at any given time.

Hey Rosey,

It took Montreal a month to send my 601 to USCIS Vermont. A receipt number will be available after it arrives in Vermont and they are supposed to mail it to you. I suggest you call USCIS and ask for the receipt number and this way you can track the touches and progress

Good luck!

Hey Dave,

thanks for your help. I just have some questions.. how long did it take to get your waiver process approved and Is it possible if you can outline the steps in the approval process for me. Is there any way I can expedite this process?

thanks

Rosey,

Ok , you went to your immigrant interview and on 21 December you turned your case into the Embassy. If your case is similar to Davey's timeline , his took 7 months anything shorter than that should be a blessing.

When you say they "already approved your case in July 2010, you are speaking of the I130. The I601 is a different process and takes longer. Depending on where it is filed, you may or may not see case tracking info on USCIS website.

hey broken,

that's what I got when I entered my receipt number, The blue circle is on Post Descision Activity.

On July 2, 2009, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I130 IMMIGRANT PETITION FOR RELATIVE, FIANCE(E), OR ORPHAN. Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

I called Montreal embassy today and they told me that I will get my passport within 90 days including whole procedure. I asked them that Am I going to receive any receipt number? they said NO. I asked them are you guys going to send my waiver to vermont? they said NO. I asked them what is the procedure and she said that it will take 90 days from the date u sent so u just have to wait. She also mentioned that I can give them a call later or I can check Dhl.ca branch to check if my passport is available for me to pick up. So lets hope for better now.

I called USCIS couple of times and they said the samething that they have approved my case and now embassy is going to do everything. I dont know about all the procedure but i think if they both are giving me same information that means I am on the right path.

Rosey,

Seems you and Broken are talking two different applications. If you put in the case number for the I130 you get information on that case. This is not the case # for your I601.

Depending on who you are talking to on the phone at Embassy or USCIS will determine the quality of your answers. Find out what office of USCIS has jurisdiction over the consulate you attended your interview at. They either have an office in that country or they don't. If they don't then they send the I601 to a sub-office either in another nearby country or to the states. That info is on the USCIS website.

They have the contact office email and phone number on the website, use that to call or email and request an update on the I601.

USCIS Field Offices

The Embassy doesn't adjudicate I601, so there is some thing wrong with what you are describing.

hey Sergi,

thanks for the info. I finally got the information from visa processing number that they sent my waiver to vermont on march 7. I sent an email to vermont centre abt the receipt number because USCIS people just told me to send an email to vermont. so I did it and finally after 13 days, I got the reply with the receipt number and they also mentioned that I601 are taking 4 months to process now. I checked my status online and it says initial review. so hope to hear good news soon.

thanks everyone for the help

Hey Rosey!

thanks for your info. I called the USCIS the other day, as i havent had an update since Jan 14th, and it was still in initial review. she told me that they were processing Oct 8th people, so the applications recieved on that day. i asked her how long it took for them do say, do one day, and he actually said depending on how quick they want to work that day!- haha.. she was not saying that being mean or anything, but she was truthful!

but if it takes 4 months, them im just about there! they recieved my application Dec 29th, can you remind me when you applired yours?
