Hi All -

So I am in the process of gathering the necessary documents and evidence, and I had a quick question that I am hoping someone can help clarify. I know initially, we provided statements on everything for every couple of months, for the first year we were married. We had an overwhelming amount of evidence and the initial green card was issued without a problem.

I used an attorney for that. Now, not using an attorney, and wondering if everything that we have has to be cumulative? In other words, can we just gather together the various documents showing lives intermingled (joint checking, health insurance, mortgage, credit cards, car loans, auto insurance...this was all I was planning along with some pictures, etc) or do we need to print every 3rd or 4th month from the onset of our marriage for each of the above listed statements? If we do, do we also need to re-include that first year of marriage?

Thanks!

In my case I sent:

  • Photos together from various vacations together over past 2 years.
  • Copies of statements showing wife attending college
  • Copies of joint IRS returns (simple Transcripts)
  • Copies of recent bank statements showing joint accounts, they do not need ones from every month, just something showing a joint account.
  • Pay stubs for commissions from a home business we have together.
  • Two notarized affidavits from two friends.
  • DL's showing same address.
  • Other letters showing same address.

Great, thank you! Some places I read (and my attorney mentioned initially) that you need a statement from every few months for the duration of the marriage (so that would be quite a lot of mortgage statements, credit card bills, loans, etc). So just printing a statement showing joint accounts/ownership is fine...doesn't need to be multiple ones from over the years. Is everything you sent, recent, or did you send some bills from throughout the 2 years?

As for credit cards, many banks have stared issuing them with different numbers, I know ours do not have same numbers on them, however the paper statements do show both names.
