Is that what he told you? I haven't gotten the memo first-hand yet. I'll obey when I do.

How about a box of donuts on your desk in the morning? Will that suffice?

Well hopefully you will come across a nice Christian one day. Or maybe you have already yet you don't care when you generalize.

When they knock on my door I am always very polite - but when I explain what I believe, their judgemental expression and lip curling disdain is something I don't need.

I have met some christians who were as nice as me (In deed not speech), but they are few and far between and that is because they are focused on supporting their own flock (club) and recruiting. They have zero interest in other religions or the nonreligious the moment they realise that a sale is not in the offing. There are a few happy clappies but they are pretty much oblivious to what's up.

That makes the churches the same as financial services salesmen but with tax exemptions that I dont get. It's basically pyramid selling or a chain letter.

Have you seen how pastors live in the USA ? Fabulous riches. The poor catholic priests have to make do with the occasional child to molest - but they are all in it for what they can get out of it.

Gimme a thinking, moral, ethical 'non' anytime

Sorry, I don't fancy donuts. A bowl of fruit sprinkled with granola would be awesome, though.

Ewww....that sounds healthy. Christmas isn't about healthy. It's about indulgence.

I have. Several. Also have come across nice Muslims, Jews and Hindus. I don't like or dislike people based on whether or not they subscribe to any faith and to which one in case they do. All I ask is that they offer the same approach towards everyone else.

Another dubious 'christian' symbol, Sinterklaas ;)

Sinterklaas? Sounds like some pervert who lives in the neighborhood and flashes all the ladies as they drive by.

Not every Christian thinks pastors living rich lives is cool. Maybe there is no point to say that. I don't currently attend church because I find it hard to find one that I feel like I fit in. I don't want to hear preaching about giving money, getting rich, politics, or similar. That doesn't affect my own beliefs about God so I don't feel like I am not practicing my faith. I feel I practice it in the way I actually live life day to day. Church can be helpful and a good community support, but it doesn't define what I believe about my own salvation. I am just trying to say that you shouldn't assume that every Christian is the same, or that every Pastor is the same.

The idea that there is a God is devoid of reason. All religion rests on that little nugget of nonsense.

That's not really true. You could argue that it's true of Western religions, but not all religion.

My wife is a practicing Buddhist. You could claim that she's religious yet she doesn't believe in a God.

Of course some might argue Buddhism isn't really a religion, but it sure functions as one for millions of Buddhists.

No, it's an example of a repressive regime which has nothing to do with theism or atheist. There was nothing in the ideology of communism that demands the persecution of the religious or the educated, or anyone. That it happened is more down to the perceived threats seen by vulnerable political leaders than anything else.

Some people make the argument that the early christian church in the years following the crucifixion functioned as a commune! Imagine, Christian communists!

Well, I worked a couple of years as a full time Youth Pastor. My fabulous riches were $150/week. The Pastor I worked under was really raking it in. He was making $300/week. I studied Theology for a few years. Never finished the degree because Greek and Hebrew are hard for me  But, the people I studied with and the Professors were without a doubt the nicest people I've ever met; both in words and in deeds.

Stalin and Mao's actions had nothing to do with their ideology, which atheism was a critical aspect of?

Communism as a form of religion is not a new idea. It's not a religion in the traditional

monotheist sense, but there are many similarities.
