These scientific theories bring to a point where we still have to wonder if there is a God or not. How does something come from nothing.

You aren't getting it. Something didn't come from nothing, something came from everything. Everything is the universe, the universe is everything. The nearest explanation I can think of is that the universe is a multi-dimensional moebius strip.

Banning the Bible - or religious scripture generally - might have other motivations is all I'm saying.

That does not answers some people's questions. So I don't get it, he doesn't get it, and many others won't. I personally don't know how saying the universe is everything answers all of the whys of life. I know it answered it for you.

For whatever reasons people have to live in fear of their government, it's an example of an oppressive atheistic government.

No, it's an example of a repressive regime which has nothing to do with theism or atheist. There was nothing in the ideology of communism that demands the persecution of the religious or the educated, or anyone. That it happened is more down to the perceived threats seen by vulnerable political leaders than anything else.

So are people going to argue every example of an atheistic government banning religious texts or practices, as if it was never atheism motivating a ruler to ban such things?

You have made a jump. It doesn't answer all the why's of life but it explains the nature of the universe in that the universe is not really confined by questions of time like before. In terms of the universe there is no before - it isn't relevant or real. Time is not linear in the way we perceive it to be.

In a word, yes. Oh, and I don't think it's useful to describe governments in terms of theism. Most governments are in fact secular.

Their actions are not inspired by their beliefs or lack of them but in promoting their own power

Anyway, the more people go to church, the less highway traffic there is on a Sunday for me

The more they tithe, the higher my relative position in the wealth scale.

..and the more pop-eyed vein pulsing religious nuts and wide eyed, sweet smiling, spaced out simpletons they will be mixing with.

So let em get on with - they should keep off my lawn though or I will take my copy of the 1st and ....

I don't think anyone would argue that christians aren't nice people. They are at least as nice as everyone else, and some are exceptionally nice. However, that really isn't a very good rationale for believing in god or the biblical explanation of existence.

Yes, for the commies I would argue that. They were all over the place on that issue.

I don't think anyone would argue that christians aren't nice people. They are at least as nice as everyone else, and some of the most devout are exceptionally nice. That really isn't a very good rationale for believing in god or the biblical explanation of existence.

My comment is for Alan, since he has made plenty of generalizations about Christians before. I don't think most of the people here are like that. According to him, I should be getting stomach ulcers trying to figure out ways to... discriminate, was it?

, Fair enough. I do believe that a belief system can play a useful role in human society and as belief system goes, christianity is a good one, give or take a few snafus regarding folks who don't conform with sexual norms.
