Oh that sucks. But thank you. guess we'll have to go thanksgiving break with a million others ;)

Georgia,

I saw this on the SSA website... "Anyone age 12 or older requesting an original Social Security number must appear in person for an interview."

So if he/she is under 12 then the child does not have to go :)

Hey everyone,

My daughters came in to the US as Follow-To-Join K2s, last July. I already had my Green Card by then. Due to several circumstances, we are only now preparing to apply for their AOS (yes, I know it's more expensive this way but we had no other choice). One is now 14, the other is now 11. I have two questions:

a) Do they need their own G-325A? I read somewhere on here that only the 14-year old will need it - is this correct?

b) Will they need a new medical? Theirs was done May 12 of 2016 so they are still within the 1-year validity, correct?

The K1 journey:                                                                                                                             The AOS journey:

11/09/2013 - I-129F Packet mailed to Dallas Lockbox                                                                                         06/22/2015 - AOS packet mailed to Chicago Lockbox

02/14/2014 - Case shipped to Embassy, where it waited for over a year at my request                                 11/07/2015 - AOS approved (EAD and AP had already been approved) - there was no interview

05/21/2015 - Interview - Approved

06/19/2015 - Wedding (L)

The ROC journey:

10/12/2017 - ROC packet mailed to VSC

01/21/2019 - ROC Approved - there was no interview

The N-400 journey:

02/16/2020 - N-400 application filed online

02/21/2020 - Paper NOA received in the mail

03/13/2020 - Biometrics

02/02/2021 - Interview & test - Approved

02/05/2021 - Oath Ceremony

Thanks for the reply!

As to your question, my husband and I will be meeting with an accountant this week and this will definitely come up as a question. I can pass along what I learn, if that will help.

The accountant was very nice but didn't know much about this particular case as she doesn't come across it often. However, she knows who to ask. She said she would get back to us with that info within a week. She did mention one thing that might help already, though, which was that you can always file without the kids and then amend it later with them. Hope this helps. :)

Okay at least that was nice. We found the more then 180 days here and you would be considered an alien for tax purposes. But we will hold on for a month and hopefully we have heard just something about the GC by then.

Does your kid have a social yet?

That's our problem, mine don't because we don't even have an EAD for them to get a SSN.

Yes he got that in November after we got the EAD. Our only problem is that he is not a permanent resident (neither an I) but we think he might be a alien for tax purpose. But it is SO darn complicated.

It doesn't make any sense to file without kids and later  - to amend.  Easier to  file an extension  - i'm sure your kids should have their EAD and SS# by October, 16.  Then just get your tax return done, along with kids.
