This picture is missing a Confederate Battle Flag. The Bible is a nice touch though.

Is he watching Fox News or Hannah Montana? Inquiring minds want to know.

This is assuming he obtained the gun legally. Plenty of ways to get a gun without having to fill out any forms or answer any questions.

That's why I said:

'Marginally harder than me buying a bag of cheese and onion crisps in a Timothy Taylor pub in Yorkshire'

You must think that's hard. Actually it is at 7am...

One of the guys at my club has 96 pistols - the bureau of ATF called him and asked him why - he said 'coz I like em'

That was that

I have 3 pistols including a 9mm Glock with extended mag, two 303 rifles, an AR-15 with 3 times 30 caliber magazines, a CZ 223 center fire rifle and a CZ 22 target rifle

I feel deprived alongside my fellow members who make Blackwater look like pea shooter kids

I grew up with guns in England and I was an officer of Ilkley Rifle Club for 14 years - but it's so easy over here in Washington State - like buying doughnuts

I live in a small town with 5 huge gun shops and one small cinema and no travel agents coz nobody has been out of the town hardly. They think I am Australian - don't know why because I am usually sober outside and I don't swear much.

Given the number of guns, the body count is remarkably low although I saw an 80 year old beginner nearly shoot his nose off

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Call the man what you will. The basic case is that the best way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun. Had the school board president been armed, the guy could have been killed sooner. The more good people carrying the guns, the more bad people have to fear.

The idiot shooting up the place probably figured he was in one of those "gun free zones"

It's so simple and the rest of the 1st world doesn't understand

The rest of the 1st world doesn't have parents-teachers evenings where the the geography teacher has to carry a machine gun either

I spent 6 years in the Police Force in a Metropolitan area of some millions - we lost one officer during all that time and he was trying to get a medal when he should have waited..

Here in Washington they are dropping like flies - four at a time. They have all the guns in the world and I shoot alongside 150 of em at the range - they even have a machine gun - doesn't save em - not at all.

When will people learn that using force begets more force and is simplistic and unproductive.

Unlike Washington, people in Vermont can carry handguns concealed without a permit or license. That means anyone over the age of 18 can carry concealed. ANYone. Vermont has NEVER had a police officer killed by a firearm in the line of duty. 2 have been killed in car accidents, the last was in 1935.

Now the anti-gunners will chime in that it is that way because we have low population density. But Quebec, our near neighbors to the north, make it virtually impossible for the average person to OWN a handgun (don't even think about carrying it concealed) and have a population density far lower than Vermont, but their crime rate (per capita) is some hundreds of times higher than ours. There are 600,000 people in Vermont and there were FOUR homicides in 2009. All were among people who knew each other...not random killings. The last time there was a random killing was in 2006. LOTS of people carry guns on their person or in their car.

But if an anti-gunner wants to say the REASON for crime is population density, it is fine with me. Gun laws will not change the population density

The moment something like this happens people call the police. Why? Because they have guns. when ONE guy goes nutty with a gun, what do we do? Call MORE people with guns. Guns are good. when the chips are down it is best to have one (or 81) The number a person owns is really irrelevent. He can only shoot one.

You got that wrong. I live in Washington State - not Washington DC. Anything goes here and the Police are killed even though they are armed to the teeth. They keep getting bigger guns and more guns and the only result is more free brass for me to pick up at the range.

The gun crimes and murders in the USA are disgraceful compared to anywhere in the 1st world so I am not going to accept this idea that Vermont has more guns than say Texas and therefore there is little crime - and that all one has to do is arm everyone down to two years old in order to have a happy and safe society

Canada has huge gun ownwership and TINY gun crime compared to the US

The fact is that guns in America are far too easily accessed by criminals and people with mental illnesses. The answer to that is not more guns and killings.

The US has been trying it this way since 1787 and look at the result

Time for a rethink

So what do you think is wrong with the people in Washington that they cannot handle individual responsibility? Vermont is in America an we have less crime than anywhere in Canada...or America. Why? Vermont has never banned the carrying of concealed weapons since they became state number 14.

If the number of guns, the freedom to carry them anywhere by anyone is NOT the reason for low crime...what is it?

as I said...Washington does not allow anyone to carry guns without a permit.

There was exactly ONE police officer killed in the line of duty in Washington in 2008. 7 in 2009 and 2 in 2010. Granted, that is a whole lot more than Vermont, but I hardly think you can say they are "dropping like flies"

Nationwide, car accidents far outnumber gun crime as the reason for death on duty.

Your story sounds all exciting and stuff...but it just isn't so.

I will try again - I live in Washington State on the Pacific Coast and we get guns over the counter. It's the other Washington - not Washington DC. There are two Washingtons - three if you include the original in England. Easier to get a gun than Vermont. I have more guns than Blackwater and I got them all while I was on a GC

You seem to think I am in Washington DC where guns are restricted

ok hope that is clear. Not DC but Washington State. Easy Guns.

Our cops are killed in droves even though everyone has at least 4 guns - according to your theory that should not happen. I am afraid your theory that all we need to do is arm more and more grannies and kill more and more baddies is just plain wrong.

Tell me why Vermont has low gun crime (not compared to anywhere civilised I bet )- there are plenty of States where guns are as easily available as Vermont so how come ?

The idea that we need more goodies to be armed so they can kill more baddies and then it will be like Switzerland - all peace and skipping through the daisies - that is plainly not so - is it ? It's a formula for ####### for tat killing and murderous intent towards the Para-Military Police that we have.

It was ridiculously easy for me to get all my heavy weaponry and nobody did the checks that would have been necessary to make sure I was a fit person.
