I-130 and Spouse's Birth Certificate

Hi, I plan to soon file the I-130 along with the G-325a's and other requested information for my spouse. We met in the US while she was on a J-1 but she is currently living in her country. I'm a natural born US citizen.

My question is . . . I have seen so many people list the spouse's birth certificate either as something they included with their application or something that should be included with the I-130. That said, every time I reread the I-130 or I-130 Instructions, I never find anything that states that I should include her birth certificate.

Can someone please tell me if it is necessary or not?

The birth certificate used to be required but it no longer is!

I sent mine anyway...for absolutely no reason other than irrationality!

22/11/11: Sent 2010 tax return

NVC Birth Certificate Requirements

Exactly. The foreign spouse's birth certificate (actual certified copy) is submitted during the NVC stage, after the petition is approved. You'll send it twice if you send it with the petition.
