there is no food delivery out here, unless you count roadkill.
This brings to mind the story of the Cajun Louisianans who go out daily and put chalk circles around all the roadkill on the highway. When they come back in the evening and see a roadkill item without chalk around it, they know that it's fresh, so it becomes supper, si man.

I grew up in Central NY where there were awesome pizza places everywhere you looked.
All serving Canadaiguan deep-dish, si man.

this is an immigration forum and not a Pizza forum
But, but, but... I thought that this was PizzaJourney, si man...

Dominick's is a 2 minute walk from my house. Best Chicago mom'n'pop pizza. Period. Wins all the awards and such. I win.

My favorites are ham and pineapple or ground beef with garlic. I'm not a huge fan of the pizzas in the pizza joints here (still missing the pizza I got in Sweden  ) so I prefer to make it myself at home. If we order in it's usually from Mellow Mushroom.

I grew up in Central NY where there were awesome pizza places everywhere you looked.

Now I live in Texas where the only choices are chains and compared to what I'm used to they pretty much all suck. I live within a mile of several but I'd be happy to drive further for something decent.

That's 'cuz you're supposed to eat BBQ in Texas, not pizza! ;)

Mellow Mushroom makes some gooooood pizza! I wish there were more locations.

Well, we couldn't imagine living in a town.

We can keep as many frozen pizzas as we want. We have a chest freezer outside we don't even have to plug in seven months of the year. Thirty five below zero right now.

What you do is add a lot of extra cheese, meat, etc. to them to "soup 'em up".

We've been to Pizza Hut in Fairbanks once in two years.

We stock up to ten dozen eggs at a time, cases of irradiated milk (amazing how long they last!) - everything in bulk. Ideally once a month to town, but at least two weeks normally.

No TV. Nobody comes here. There's a little store down the road that sells gas and beer. We get gas for the snow machines and four wheelers there maybe once a month at the most.

Out of curiosity what do you do to make money? Or do you live off the land by hunting and fishing, etc. I have a friend who wants to move to Alaska and I don't think he'd survive..

I do consulting on the internet. I don't have to leave the cabin. I do some property development too. Mostly heavy equipment work. It pays a lot less but I really like doing it.

Everyone hunts and fishes here pretty much as a way of life if they live out of town. Gardens. Cut wood for heat. Do your own mechanical work, building, welding, etc. Can't go to town for stuff.

You can't do this unless you can do all that. You'd have to live in town, and then what's the point of being here. People often have a romanticized idea about it, but it's just hard living and most aren't cut out for it. You have to enjoy the struggle.
