Hey all. Here i am reading the instructions about the Affidavit of support here on VJ and reading the instructions on affidavit of support at USCIS site. The thing that confuses me is that it never says anything about tax returns, nor cover letters nor anything of that kind. So i would like to know, clear and simple, is it necessary to have tax returns for few years behind? I see here members who have even put even a cover letter of what other documents are accompanying the Affidavit of Support, and again, i have never seen anything being said about it on the USCIS site.

So why is everyone adding more stuff to it? And does my Affidavit of Support has to notarized? Because it never says anything about that either on USCIS site.

I read the guidelines and honestly i just got more confused.

Thank you, i appreciate your help :)

If you think about it logically, of course you need tax returns - as you're proving your income in the past. The affidavit is no longer notarized.

Ok you are doing 129f and in my country my fiance did not need to supply tax returns we have done that for AOS after marriage but if your country requires them then yes as you have to prove that the US citizen can financially support the beneficiary. All we had to do was prove my now husbands employment and yearly income. We never used cover letters at all for any of our applications. Follow the USCIS site and print out instructions as we did and you will be fine. VJ is a guide and also and gives you USCIS and we all answer questions from our own experience. But I did not find this site till after we applied and we did it ourselves from the USCIS site. Good luck

As mentioned above it really depends on your country. But even so, the requirement is to be making 125% above the federal poverty guidelines. Tax transcripts (or returns) are supplemental information to help you prove that. If you have the tax transcripts you should send them. If you do not, you should have a valid reason and write a letter stating why you did not file. At the K1 stage (before AOS), I have not yet seen tax transcripts to be a big issue. Most consulates look at your present income anyways.

Where tax information really comes in is if you are self-employed.
