Decrypting the Receipt Number

OK, we know the WAC in a Receipt Number means Western Adjudication Center and the first 2 digits after that are the year. Now I read somewhere that the next 3 digits are the Julian date (sequential day of the year) but this doesn't make sense for a Receipt Number of WAC 06 224 XXXXX for example, with a receipt date of July 18 (Juilan day 199). Julian day 224 is August 12. So then what are those 3 digits? Is this another bit of USCIS creativity?

Wow Dude, I never really thought about it. And never will, because it really would not make any sense. Just like this process!!

dang...in that case my julian date is 125...but I filed in march, NOA1 of Mar 16 (I can't remember, whatever my timeline says) so that would make it the 75 day. 125 on my receipt number is April 5ish. Nothing happened to me then. But then, when you think about it...if anyone's called NCSC, you'll note that it asks you to type in your receipt number...but the automated voice doesn't state the number as we know it's written. You see it as > WAC 06 xxx xxxxx < That automated voice doesn't say in that group format. At any rate..if that is the system of which you speak, I wonder what the last 5 digits mean. hmmm

Well...at least this is something to do to keep some people busy. Interesting Gary...I never thought of it that way either like William said. I did kinda figure out 06 was the year...common sense hehe.

The three digits are the day number, but not from the start of the calendar year, but from the start of USCIS's fiscal year. I leave it as an exercise for the reader to figure out when that is.

The last 5 digits are just a sequential number.

This thread would be a good example of one should do while waiting for NOA2 - a question asked on another thread.

I only offer advice - not even legal. Just the plain and simple kind.

Before you asked the question, I already wondered it that was the case... but didn't think the USCIS's fiscal year would start on Dec 7th of each year.

Then I realized that when calculating this, you have to take into account holidays.

The middle three numbers are the number of working days from October 1. So Saturdays and Sundays and national holidays are not included...
