Foreign Birth Certificate where to translate?

Hello all, I need some advice on helping my dad get his green card. He has a foreign passport and birth certificate and I wanted to know if anyone could provide any recommendations on the best approach to get them translated and accepted by USCIS. He is a citizen of Vietnam, should I go to the US embassy for this type of work?

You find somebody who is qualified to translate a Vietnamese document into English and have them do it. If you were this qualified person, that would work as well, as long as you are certain that your translation is absolutely accurate and verbatim, meaning that there's no built in interpretation of something that might be vaguely phrased in the original document.

There are cases where no name of the father or the mother was in the original birth certificate, and the translator "added" this. Needless to say, that's a big no-no.

I had to get French and German police certificates, both languages I speak (and write!) fluently. I translated these and provided a translator's statement of fluency, no problems.
