Hi,

My wife is in Canada so I go visit her very frequently, but since I am a green card holder, I only show my green card at the Canadian and US border, do I need to show proof of when I left the US and came back when I apply for citizenship? I think they can check when I came back to the US, but can they find out when I left?

Thanks.

They can get this information from Canadian customs.

I would keep a 5 year diary of trips abroad for this use, however, they do understand if you are off a few days one way or the other when calculating time abroad

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

Legally, trips that were less than 24 hours should not be counted. However, estimating to the best of your knowledge will also do the trick.

At this point, you should probably keep a sheet with your trips. Also, if you use a Credit card, and willing to dig into this, you can check your statements and see what days you used it in Canada.

Actually that was my plan, I have all the records of my credit card clearly showing when I made purchases in the US which clearly prints the gas purchases, but the question is, do I really need to give all the transactions to USCIS to show that I am in the US all the rest of the time? Should I bring these to the interview?

I would bring as much information as possible. You can put this in a list like with Excel. Only imagine they ask for it and you can't show those facts. As long as you weren't longer out of the country than is allowed, I see no problem. Better safe than sorry.
