Hi I hope I'm posting this in the right area.

My husband just got his visa and booked his flight and he goes from Jordan to Amsterdam then has to wait 2 hours then goes from amsterdam to his Poe. Has anyone had a layover in Amsterdam is it easy or hard? I heard some people needing a "transit visa" I don't know what that is. And he does not speak very good English should I write him a letter to show people If he needs help finding his flight? Just please help me out so I can relax I don't want them giving him trouble threw amsteram

Him having a typed english letter could be of help in the airports if he cant figure out how to ask where his gate is or where he needs to go to. That way instead of getting flustered trying to talk to people he could just show them the letter that explains things. Specially after the incident that was in the news about the man who got tazord because he was frustrated no one understood him.

Not sure about the transit visas, he may or may not need one.

Check here but a better source would be with the specific airline he is flying. My hubby had a layover in there with no problems you just can't leave the area but a letter would never hurt.

I've gone through Amsterdam several times. Never needed a transit visa. Schipol is really nice.

Is he a Palestinian or Jordanian citizen? Some countries wont let you have even a lay over, that depends on your nationality and they require to have a transit visa which allows you to stay in the international flights zone without leaving the airport.

I found this: •A-Visa: Transit visa for airports. Residents from some countries require a transit visa when travelling through the Netherlands to another county. This type of visa does not give you the right to get into the country. You need this transit visa if you are a national from; Afghanistan, Angola, Bangladesh, Congo (Democratic Republic), Eritrea, Ehteopea, Ghana, Guinea, Irak, Iran, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalie, Sudan, Syria, Sri Lanka.

So, neither Jordanians nor Palestinians need to have a transit visa when they stop by The Netherlans to board a flight going to another country. The wont let him stay more than 24 hours in the airport though. He will have to show them the american visa and the plane ticket from The Netherlans to the U.S .

He will be fine, and in case he will have hard time communicating with them, they may find an arabic speaker in the airport. there are lots of Moroccans in Netherlands living and visiting, i am sure ones will be in the airport.

By the way i had to stop by Dublin going and coming from Morocco, it was fine. They asked to see my green card and my other plane tickets.
