Joint Sponsor and Tax Proof

Hi All,

I lived in Canada last year and was a student who didn't make enough income to sponsor my family to come here. I've since moved back to the US (American citizen all along). Even if I got a copy of last year's tax return my income wouldn't be enough to sponsor my family so I would need to have a joint sponsor. Correct?

If so, both myself and the joint sponsor would need to file I864s for my wife, 1st kid, 2nd kid as they all had I130s filed for them, correct? I.e. 3 I 864s filled out by JS and 3 by me.

Correct?

If your current income is sufficient, I would think you could just write a letter of explanation as to why your income was low in your tax return. This is similar to the instructions in the I-864 which say that you can write a letter explaining why you did not have to file taxes. They mainly look at current income.
