Cheap Air Tickets from Manila Philippines to USA?

Hi All,

I am about to book my mother's ticket today but PAL website online is expensive for one way. She needs to come to the USA this coming Dec 17th. Anyone here personally used cheap online tickets aside from Expedia, Cheap air, Hotwire, Travelocity?

Some of the websites do not allow you to purchase tickets where the originating country is non-US. Where is her destination?

Yep, some websites will not allow you to book when the origination country is non-USA while others will not allow you to book a one way ticket.

Try booking from the airlines directly (Eva Air, Cathay, Korean, China Air, etc) or from a TA within the Philippines like this one.

Last year (Nov 2009) I tired every site I could find even all of the ones listed here on VJ and Expedia was competitive with all of them.

I do find Expedia competitive but that is for certain airlines & route. For a lot of people Expedia would be great.

A lot of the cheaper fares I see on Expedia have multiple stops (more than 1).

For me, personally, it wouldn't work out. My preference is to have 1 connecting/transit stop in Asia & then my home base (JFK) as my POE. For this I find Expedia & the other search engines to be more expensive than booking directly from the Asian airlines/TA.

But, we all have different taste & likes, so whatever works for you - that is what you go with.

I am looking at fares (doing comparisons) for January for my wife. She is a first time immigrant. So far I have seen 2 good fares from Manila to JFK (1 stopover/change airlines in either Incheon or Taipei) for a little over $700. The stopover I prefer (HK) would be more. The other fares I have seen around that price (via the search engines) have 2 or 3 stopover (int'l & US) before her final destination.

If her POE & connection is somewhere in the US & depending on how long the Immigrations lines are - there is a chance of her missing her connecting flight & also the issue of her collecting luggage & rechecking if they are not tagged all the way to JFK.

I would prefer her to have the stopover in Asia as I know there will be lest of a chance of her missing her connecting flight, her luggage will be tagged all the way to JFK & her POE would be her final destination. And with my experiences with the Asian Airlines (especially with the ones I am thinking of booking with), they do take care of their customers, so if she have any issues with her connecting flight or anything else - they will assist her.

Is there any way for her to leave earlier than December 17? PAL has a promo (it's a round trip ticket though...you'd have to cancel the return ticket):

With the date of your mom's travel this close, you may or may not get a good fare on the search engines.

Also try to see if you can get a last minute fare via the airlines/TA. Usually they have unsold seats and will sell them at a discounted fare.

This time of the year everyone is going back home for the holidays & there are sure to be empty seats for the (return) flight to the USA to pick customers up - Peak going to Asia & non-peak to the USA. So try to see if you can get a last minute discounted fare.

Have you used the travel site that you listed KFC? Also is the K1 a first time imigrant? I read where a K1 visa flier was denied boarding under the first time immigrant ticket because the K1 is a non immigrant visa.

Multiple connections isnt an issue if they were all booked thru the same airline even if they are partners. They will get you where you need to be. I purchased mine seperately and when AA dropped the ball, i had to buy another ticket on my next two flights and AA could care less.
