I have been wondering about the "last updated" column for quite some time. I have heard people mention this, and about being touched, but I don't see this date. The only date I see when I check my case status is the following:

Initial Review

On September 10, 2010, we received this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E), and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. You will be notified by mail when a decision is made, or if the office needs something ..............

I can't find anything that says last updated or any other dates. What am I doing wrong here? Thanks for your help.

If you want major updates, you have to create an account on the USCIS website. Go to the USCIS home page. On the left, click on Sign-Up for Case Updates

Then click on Register as applicant customer

From there, you will get the Terms and Condition page. Click on Accept button to take you to the registration page.

Fill in the registration information. After you have completed it, click Submit to process.

Click on Add Case to My Portfolio every time you want to enter the NOA1 receipt number. Then adjust your settings if you wish to receive e-mail and/or SMS updates. Please take note however, you will NOT receive an e-mail or SMS whenever the file is touched, but only during major milestones in your application process: Acceptance, Initial Review, Request for Evidence, Decision (Approval or Refusal), Post-Activity Decision and Card Production.

You will know your file is touched if you see the date under the Last Updated column change.
