My husband just recieved his stamped passport. I am a little confused because it says it expires on May 2011. Does that mean we have to leave the Philippines before May??? Or do we have to reapply in May 2011? We got the visa approved Dec 2010. That is only good for 5 months. I'm really confused. When do we have to leave the country??

I attached a picture so you can understand exactly what I'm talking about. They didn't sent an instruction packet or anything. They just assume everybody knows everything about this stupid visa stuff. And it's getting so tiring. They are like purposefully trying to keep me out of the loop so I have to use their stupid call center number again and pay 18 bucks. Annoying!!!!!

Spousal visas are for people who want to move right away to the US to be with their spouse. Generally the visa is good for 6 months, meaning that the beneficiary is required to leave their home country by the expiration date on your visa

Since your visa expiration date is May 2011, he needs to leave and move to the US by that time

Good luck

The spousal visa is valid for 6 months. Your spouse will HAVE to get to the USA by the date of expiration on that visa. Then he gets his greencard and Social Security card mailed to him. Failure to move by the date on that visa will mean that you will have to start alllllll over again.

Invictus..

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the Pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeonings of chance

My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds, and shall find, me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll.

I am the master of my fate:

I am the captain of my soul.

It may have something to do with the length of validity of his medical exam. I know those exam results expire after a certain amount of time, and the beneficiary has to travel before it expires. That may be why his visa is only valid for 5 months..

You will be throwing money away if he doesn't join you in the states by the expiration date on the visa. On a side note, why did you put your husbands personal info on line without bluring his vital info? There are some crazy people out there you know.

 exactly right. Oh, really consider removing the photo since it contains personal information that an identity theif might love to have. Maybe a monitor can remove it for you.

May love and laughter light your days,

Technically, he simply must "enter" the USA before the expiration date. He then must maintain permanent resident status in the USA. See.. http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis/menuitem.eb1d4c2a3e5b9ac89243c6a7543f6d1a/?vgnextoid=3f443a4107083210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD&vgnextchannel=3f443a4107083210VgnVCM100000082ca60aRCRD

He's free to leave the USA the same day if he wants. "Moving to the USA" can be accomplished later as long as he maintains the status.
