I am confused about when a CR-1 or K-3 applicant will be give the option for electronic filing. I noticed on the USCIS website that neither I-130 nor I129F are listed as applications that can be submitted electronically. Clearly this would make filing more convenient and it apparently speeds up the process somewhat. Anyone with experience or knowledge about this process, kindly post a reply.

Andrew,

Electronic filing happens in the NVC stage. Right now, USCIS has not progressed enough into the electronic world to be able to receive the I-130 docs. You can log into the USCIS website and get a status of your file (once you get a file number from them.) Calling them for a status update is your best bet for an accurate response. Even then, you might need to talk to a Tier 2 officer if your case is beyond the 5 month processing window.

Read all of the guides on this website related to your CR1. Lots of information here.

Good luck on your journey!

Hello Greg,

Thanks for the advice. I was finally able to locate the information I needed. The process appears easy enough.

Btw, I have a couple of things in common with you: My wife is from Chengdu (in fact, I have an ex-wife from Chengdu as well), and I travel several times each year to Shenzhen on business. I will be on my way again on January 5h. Does business also bring you to China? What city are you from? If you would like to correspond with me, let me know and I'll give you my email address.

Andrew

Note, the K-3 does not qualify for e-filing, and is essentially a dead visa type, NVC drops it when they receive the I-129F and I-130 at the same time, which is what USCIS will do.
