I think it depends on which state your in. Some states only allow you 6 months before you are required to surrender your foreign driving license.

check with your local DMV.

It's amazing how much things vary from state to state. Thinking about it, FL may accept my EAD. I know we're going to try anyway.

I can drive with my UK license but really I'd only be able to drive a rental car. My hubby and I's insurance will not accept a foreign license and even if they did it makes insurance very expensive. So my car may be sitting on the driveway for a while!

I know how your feeling. I'm in Texas, they won't even give a temp license. I was told I had to wait till I had my Green Card, but on VJ i've been hearing I'd be able to get it once I get my EAD. I guess i'll see once the EAD is in my hands...

For some reason I can't even open a joint bank account either with my husband. They said I need a U.S goverment id plus a state ID and a SSN. So i'm going to have to wait patiently for my Green Card so I can have access to our banking funds.. :(

Waiting sucks!!!

I was told the same thing. Have to wait for the green card for the license and bank account. I plan on giving it a shot with the EAD. I hope because I am sick of being cooped up in here!

I know everyone is in the same boat here and it is nice to be able to vent. Everyone thinks this is such a nice vacation not being able to work but as you all know sitting at home (especially if you can't drive) is not very much fun for months on end.

Oh well on a better note biometrics tomorrow hopefully it all goes quickly after that!

I didn't think getting added onto a bank account was so complicated. It seems like it is up to the discretion of the branch, so maybe try another branch??

I'm waiting for my SSC to show up in the mail...just got some kind of letter delivered today that it is coming soon. Getting a driver's license and added onto a Bank Account were not a problem for me, although my driver's license does expire the day my I-94 does, so hopefully my EAD shows up before then, and the DMV is okay with that!! Or else it's going to be brutal not being able to drive...

Hopefully everything works out for everyone. Some things I've gotten back into since I've moved down here are: just joined a gym...enjoying the yoga & cardio classes. Enjoying sleeping in. Enjoying reading magazines and daytime TV, January sales (found some great deals), and...most of all, the online shopping!! :) Just a suggestion...

I have joined the gym as well and thank goodness it is in walking distance.

Yea I have gotten into the whole TV thing but just the things I am used to doing I can't until I can drive. There isn't good public transportation around here either sadly.

I used to volunteer at animal shelters back home. Everything from dog walking to working the adoption unit. There are so many good shelters around here. One of them we just recently adopted our cat from :). Having an animal in the house is great so I am not left alone while the hubby is at work. BUT I do wish I could get back out volunteering.

Oh well we just have to wait I suppose. I am just real excited to get back out there and do what I love!

Oh and I won't forget to bring the marriage certificate :)

I too am having the pan of waiting get to me, & without a car to do things ( we only have the one between us) & no money its hard to be motivated. Thankfully FL gave me a temp licence but after learning that you can only get a single extension for 60 days until GC is granted, that could be a concern. Cross that bridge when we get to it.

Still no word on Bio either, this waiting is driving me nuts but its made all the better to be with the person I love finally. Small pain for long term gain.

I-751 Application - Nov 26, 2012.
NOA - Nov 27, 2012.
Bio Appointment Dec 31, 2012.
New Appointment Jan 8, 2013.

I-751 Removal of Conditions - Approved May 28 2013

Green Card Production notice - June 13 2013

Green Card Received - June 20, 2013

Citizenship Application - January 17, 2023

Hey everyone, I posted this in the correct forum, but thought I'd ask you guys. We're thinking of doing a trip in late March to Hawaii. With luck, my AP/EAD may be done by then, but I doubt my AOS complete by then.

Hawaii, from what I've read is fine for me to travel (minus AP), but was wondering if anyone knows the rules on Hawaiian cruises (only ports within Hawaii, start and end in Honolulu)? What about the Virgin Islands (US Territory) or Guam (US Territory). Anyone know a good link to where I can figure out the correct answer? (I don't want to use my AP, even if I have it).

Thanks!

As far as I know, in any closed loop cruises (in/out same port) a passport is not required, even if going to non-US islands. I would suggest calling the cruiseline as the rules may be different from one another.

Im on my wifes car insurance. It has me listed with a foreign driving license. It adds two point whatever that means.

Thank you, goodnight and may your gods go with you",

Laaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame.........just got email and text message notification of an RFE for our AOS petition :( (someone must be working late?!)

Don't know what it's for yet, will just have to wait and see. Major bummer for a Friday night, but hopefully it's something we can easily fix. I'm really hoping it's not my vaccinations, don't want to pay out the money to see a civil surgeon...

So it took them a week to get back to the case after receiving reply on RFE.

Biometrics went alright.

Walked in and filed out the for and all then this jerk sat me down and looked at me and said. "You have a nose ring?!"

my response was a puzzled uhh yea...

He got all pissy and demanded I removed it or else I would not have my appointment.

I said uh alright I have had this for 3 years and never taken it out not sure if I can. So I tried and couldn't get it out.

I went downstairs where my husband was waiting and I was all frustrated and upset. Well my husband got it out but lets just say my nose is gunna have a scar. It was pretty painful. Darn thing didn't wanna come out!

So i go upstairs makeup smeared on my face from tears lol and they took my pics and the fingerprints.

The guy came back and saw me there and told me I looked much better. I look like a girl now.

Complete #######.

Oh well its done. So no piercings when you go for biometrics guys! Lesson learned.

The lady who did my fingerprints told me I should be expecting my EAD in the mail in 2 weeks!??

I was surprised and excited but I told myself not to get my hopes up.

Anyone else get told this?

A friend of mine told me similar, he said 2-3 weeks, but he doesn't work for USCIS. he was immigration liaison for UCF for 2 years though so he's not completely ignorant ;)

I'm going with it could be any day, but not going to start seriously obsessing over the mail til I've hit 60 days :)

I was asked if I was wearing any head jewelry. Apparently you're not allowed any. You'd think this was an important piece of advice to include in the appointment letter, considering some people have extensive piercings.

Haven't heard anything yet about my RFE, which they received Monday afternoon. But going on kaboom's experience, I won't til early next week. I hope. I need to start working...

Hey all, another December filer here... didn't know about this forum until now, or I probably would've been stalking it sooner. :) Our application was received December 3rd, but we haven't received a bio appointment yet, and haven't had any touches since 12/18. I guess since it's been more than 30 days, I'll give them a call on Monday and see if I can figure out if there's anything else that we need to do. Still frustrating, though! My husband already has his EAD though, so fortunately he is able to work and we are not waiting on that (though it did take for-ev-er for that process to get done.)
