And I thought it was from Citizen Smith

We went up to Washington in County Durham on the last trip a few months ago - 'The' Washington that is. Where George's forebears are from. The Family flag is the stars and stripes.

George Washington was born British and applied to join the British Army - so that makes him an ok guy by me

The first secretary to the treasury was born British but Naturalized as a US Citizen.

His mug shot is on the $10 note

Alexander Hamilton

Now it's my turn ...hum... now let's see....

Where they will acquire the local culture and become sophisticates no doubt....

As the Louisiana coonasses would say, "Laissez le bon temps rouler."

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

US Congresswoman Barbara Jordan (D-TX)

Testimony to the House Immigration Subcommittee, February 24, 1995

I think anybody born in the colonies was considered a british subject, which was their word for citizen at the time.

Of course after "we" kicked the redcoats butts. that was no longer the case. Now that Cleo is gone I dont have to

be an anglophile any more

Technically my ancestors were still digging potatoes in ireland at the time. Those british imperialist were grinding us under their boot heels.

Most of the Brits hate themselves too as they nearly all have some Irish ancestors. I had a great grandfather who was a runaway sheep thief from Eire and his name was Moichel Casson.

However, the addition of some Welsh Bevan and Viking Summersgill and Norman French Barett, diluted me to the mainly Saxon thinking mongrel I am today. My constituent parts are so busy hating each other that it's a wonder I am still in one piece

ps If it wasn't for the Americas, there would never have been a potato famine. Think about it.

In the final battle in the war of independance, there were more French troops fighting the Brits than American.

So the Blackwater concept of contract mercenaries isn't that new

Course the Brits used German mercenaries - the Hessians

So basically, the war of independance was the Germans against the French and the French won

We ought to pay the Iraqis to fight the Afghans and the North Koreans to fight the Iranians while we watch American idol on telly

I think the french were just going along the lines of "what is bad for britan is good for the french" as opposed to getting directly paid for their efforts. "We had wisely sent our most "esteemed' representive Benjamin Franklin to France to represent our cause, He was there for the majority of the revolution. He was like a rock star , partially because of his lightning/kite flying trick.

God, those were the good old days, when the Iraqis and Iranians were at each others throat, We really should have just fabricated an incident between them. Then we could have sold them arms

while they beat each other to a pulp. We could have let the Brits supply one side and we supply the other. Of course those would be cash only transactions this would be us :pop: :pop: :pop: :pop: Our economies would be humming along like this :dancing: :joy:   :dancing: :joy: .

Im going to start a new thread with this one.

I thought about it and gave myself a headache so I googled it instead. I still don't see the connection. Please tell me more.

Well you see, I didn't say 'the Americans' I said 'the Americas'

Potatoes came from the Americas, so if the Americas had never been discovered, there would have been no potatoes in Ireland and thus no potato famine

So the main blaimee for the potato famine was Chris Columbus and without him the Irish would have been living on whatever they lived on before his voyage. Probably mackerel and sea weed - what they serve in expensive restaurants nowadays.

It's a bit like Chinese toys - when we fall out with the Chinese, we will have a toy famine. It's best not to single source as we are too vulnerable to supply disruptions - and that's why I always had more than one girlfriend on the go

It was a fair trade, the europeans gave the americas small pox

Glenn would say it was the French did that..

It was the first instance of European socialism - share and share alike

The American natives took their revenge by showing our women how to smoke pipes - which ruined many a romantic evening in Europe
