I would suggest looking at it this way Danno. There are obviously a wide range of views concerning any faith and Islam is no exception. For clarity I will present one view, that of Radical Muslims, who believe sincerely that Allah wishes them to constantly fight unbelievers. They believe sincerely that dying in their Holy Struggle is a sure path to great rewards in paradise. From the same Holy Book others glean peace from, they glean a call to arms. Are they good Muslims on the righteous path set by Allah? We need not answer that question at all.

Are they good human beings? I think their actions answer that question quite plainly, no.

All of the elements that make up any religion exist when discussing Radical Muslims. A god whom they have faith exists. A holy text with words to guide and justify their actions. A horrible place for non-believers. A paradise for the faithful. Spiritual leaders to explain it all.

It may be unfortunate that they have chosen the same book and same name for their religion as others who have gathered quite the opposite message from the same source but that is simply the confusing reality we cope with today.

Since the Quran doesn't allow permission for what terrorists do, it is erroneous to say they are even employing sources in a proper manner. It is like saying that one using only the war verses in the Bible, the statements re Jesus coming with the sword, for example, to form their entire theology and justification for their acts. That wouldn't even be a variation on Christianity. Islam emphasizes justice and mercy. They are major themes of the Quran; justice is mentioned more than 50 times in the Book. If someones theology precludes justice and mercy to focus on retribution, which is Gods domain, we cannot merely explain that as a variation of the faith; it excludes a majority of the premise of Islam, just as excluding the divinity and salvation of Jesus cannot be Christianity, or I could call myself a Christian and you would be forced to accept me as such. Why do you choose to force Muslims to accept as Islam a paradigm that bears no resemblance to our practice and belief? What interest does that benefit except that of terrorists?

And Sof you may be absolutely correct that beyond common names and a common holy book the resemblance to the Islam you know, love and practice ends. If 20% of the worlds population held suicide bombing to be the highest and most holy calling of their faith we would no doubt see a great deal more such activity. Yet we don't. That is a good thing.

But we do find a fair amount of cheering on, we do find evidence that at times and in places Radical Muslim teachings are being spread. How does denial of these realities not assist the Radical Muslim cause?

No one said they don't exist, that's silly. It's not at all improper to say their not practicing Islam since they're not. Frankly, it's non-Muslims who insist on supporting terrorist philosophies who try to bully Muslims into accepting their definitions and perspectives of the divide. To reject them is rational, since those who have no clue only have legitimacy among themselves. We will ultimately define ourselves, and we are not obligated to accept your Muslims as our Muslims. You are welcome to them.

They don't post these daily (probably hourly) suicide bombings on the news anymore (they are very difficult to find) but we all know they happen every day. I personally don't consider these people true Muslims such as yourself. They are nut cases. But why are they doing this? Does it have to do with this bombers interpretation of Islam and that he would be rewarded in Heaven for doing this? You would think there would only be 1 maniac that would believe in such non sense but it clearly happens daily. Why do they think they will be rewarded for killing people including themselves vs. the traditional view that you are rewarded in an afterlife for doing good...

Iraq Suicide Bombing Kills At Least 13 in Ramadi

A suicide car-bomber attacked a checkpoint near the government administrative building in Iraq's Anbar province capital of Ramadi, killing at least 13. Iraqi security forces are also on alert for threats before the Shi'ite Ashoura celebration this week in the south of the country.
