Likely state specific for this but can an LPR get a gun permit / license in Nebraska? Keep it at home in a lock box, not to carry around on person. Iv tried looking around havent really been able to find any info on it that is solid enough.. I went into Cabelas and asked there but they werent sure. My husband asked some of the people on base but none of them knew either.

I am sure the info is out there on the web.

In Colorado you need a permit if you are going to conceal carry. Otherwise to buy one from a dealer you need ID and Proof of Address. None of this is needed if you buy privately.

No need to keep it locked.

the only thing i have been able to find online is this

Nebraska:

Concealed weapon permits are only issued to US citizens.

I havent been able to find anything else in all my searches unless im just using bad/wrong wording for it. That tiny sentance doesnt really give me enough info!

The only permit you need to buy a gun in Nebraska is for handguns. For this you just need to be resident and have ID.

As for concealed carry, which I understand wasn't your question but still, the only residence requirement is that you are resident in Nebraska. So being a legal permanent resident counts.

So I don't need anything special to keep it in the house like a license or registration or anything like that? just a permit to buy it which obviously would come with a background check etc? (Im over 21)

Here's a few links for you:

- Lincoln Nebraska rules: http://www.lincoln.ne.gov/city/police/pdf/gun.pdf

- Nebraska gun law links: http://nebraskaccess.ne.gov/gunlaws.asp

- Short rundown: http://crime.about.com/od/gunlawsbystate/a/gunlaws_ne.htm

According to the last link there are no requirements for permits etc unless you carry.

The US doesn't believe in having residents/citizens register fire arms. It is a Canadian law that all firearms need to be registered. I remember that your spouse is also military, so I understand how members like having a handgun in the house for security, esp for spouses. Just go to a local trusted gun store, find what your comfortable with, then during the payment process they will confirm residency. THe conceal carry, is a longer process and from the sounds of it, not of interest to you.

I would suggest,( not knowing what your experience is with guns), to take a gun safety course and go to the range often until you have muscle memory working, clearing and cleaning it with confidence. Lots of folks have guns in the house for security, but if your not confident and efficient working it, it can easlily be turned on you. I'm sure your hubby would enjoy taking you to the range anyways, it is a lot of fun and a good couples time.

Hope this helps :-)

Yep hes more concerned lately with things that have been going on so hes been more interested in getting me a gun lately.. I wasnt really all for it at first. His father also has been asking quite a bit if we have gotten a gun yet for me. Now that we know its not as complicated as we thought it would be we will be going out to Cabelas again in a couple of weeks to check it out.

I dont really like guns! they do make me nervous so yes, I will be going to the range a bunch! my husband will be taking me and hes pretty stoked that his wife is going to do this lol.. hes also going to show me how to take it apart and put it together and clean it properly and such. His father had a small handgun that he showed us when we visited him I may be getting the same one because when he let me hold it ( not loaded of course! ) it felt like a really good size for me. This is going to be an interesting experience for me lol another first in such a short time of firsts!

(I did grow up with guns in the house but they were hunting guns and I was never allowed to touch them or anything. My dad used to hunt rabbits and pheasant(sp?) )

Thank you! does help =)

It definatly is different here in the States. It does have a very strong gun culture, where as in Canda lots of folks have guns, but they're all hunting rifles. I think we're a tad less paranoid up north .LOL :P

But as a smaller female with smaller hands, I've found that a 9mm is the most comfortable and easy to operate and handle, though some other girls I know like the way a Glock feels. I would look at these, and go with the one that feels the most natural and where you don't feel like you have to strain to hit the safety or to pull the slide. It will take a bit to get use to handling it, but just make sure that you keep going to the range until the nerves have setteled and then keep going. In terms of a gun safe as you posted, when you're at Cabela's they will have a couple options for you. You could go with a trigger lock, so gun doesn't get locked up, you could keep it in the nightstand and all you have to do is unlock this little pad lock, or they do have single lock boxes that would easliy fit under your bed, in dresser etc...

I know some folks say don't lock it up, but if you plan on having kids, best to get in safe practice now, or if you have friends bringing their kids over it is best to be safe. If you have it in a lock box under bed it should take less than 5 seconds to get out and same for the trigger lock. But it's your call on what you want to do, just don't let anyone try and pressure you into not locking it up, if this is what you want to do.

Cheers,

Cheers,

We do have friends bring kids over and I don't think I can even trust my dogs around one.. you hear all kinds of weird storys I bet there is one out there of someones dog getting ahold of it and stuff! I like the idea of the trigger lock, a friend was telling me to get a finger or hand reader one but I dont know how reliable something like that would be.. if it didn't happen to work or got jammed or "my finger was too dirty so the bad guy shot me cus my safe wouldn't open" LOL. That friend also joked I would have to get a barbie gun cus my hands are so small lol... I don't think anyone will be able to talk me out of buying some type of lock-up for the gun, I don't like the idea of it being just " loose " in the house ever.. specially if in the event someone got in the house from upstairs and found it.. I would be doubly screwd. We live in a pretty nice area and its safe, other military familys all around but still.. I don't like that one odd in a million chance of something weird happening. My family seems to attract thos.

I am there with you. I'm a new mom and the thought of my little one getting a hold of one scares the ####### out of me, I don't know how some parents etc... can just have it out in the open, easy to discover. Way to many horror stories, I'd rather take my chances. Oh, and about the electronic reader, smart not to get one. It won't be reliable, like you said you have dirt or oil on your hands, or if your hands are calloused it may not read.

Well, have fun with your new adventure and best of luck
