I want to travel to immigrate to the US, but I may actually have to go back to

finish my studies in Halifax. I am doing a master's at a university. I don't

know if it will bother them that I am traveling to get my green card, and then

I am coming back to finish university for the term. The term will probably be of

4 or 5 months, and then I will go back to the US to stay permanently.

I am just wondering if this could be a problem?

Also after that period of 4 or 5 months.. I will probably need to go back to the

university and defend thesis but that would be a short trip.

Any advice on this, suggestions and comments are greatly appreciated.

Depends on the visa you are using to enter the USA, and with some visas, how quickly you'd need to leave again.

Your profile says F1, which is a student visa and not an immigration visa.

a visa is for immigration purposes...if you are not ready to immigrate just wait to apply since there may be another who desperately desires or needs to come.

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

@Penguin_ie. This isn't an F1 student visa. It is an F1 - First preference immigration visa.

Wayne and Claudia

Well, I only have a frame of time in which I can immigrate to the United States. If I do not immigrate to the US during that

period, I will lose my visa. The other thing is that I just need to finish my studies for a tiny bit longer, and then I can remain

in the US permanently.

you have 6 months to travel once your residency has been approved. can you finish in those 6 months and then come? if not then it won't be a problem as long as you have the visa stamped in your passport and it is less than 6 months.

probably for the thesis you will already have received your GC. since both times it is less than 6 months each, then it won't be a problem.
