When flying to the USA, does one's fiancee have to fly from the country where the K-1 visa was issued?

In my case, my fiancee is obtaining her K-1 visa through the US consulate in Hong Kong. But, she and I will be coming to the USA from the Philippines.

TIA,

Michael.

I finally got rid of the never ending money drain. I called the plumber, and got the problem fixed. I wish her the best.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I'm not sure the CFO applies here. My fiancee (a Philippine citizen) has been an overseas workers in Hong Kong for 5+ years. She already has a passport.

The CFO website says: "Under DFA Department Orders No. 28-94 and No. 11-97, Filipino spouses and other partners of foreign nationals are required to attend the guidance and counseling program as a pre-requisite to the issuance of passport. "

I am a US citizen. We have not married under Philippine law. We are going to the Philippines for 1 week to visit her parents before heading to America.

The POE is all that matters! Have the sealed envelope and passport with visa!

If she goes back to the Philippines and has to take the CFO class, it's not 100% certain they will approve her. I guess in that case she could to fly back to HK and leave from there.

I think the smart thing to do would be leave HK and wave out the window as the plane passes the Philippines.

I thought even over-seas workers had to take the CFO class.

Well I guess we will find out if he's back here complaining about the money it's costing him to reschedule their plane flights. No way in hell I would take a chance in going back there and getting tied up in CFO red tape.

Yes... but there is a difference between the CFO for overseas workers and the CFO for overseas spouses and fiancees. If the Filipino Officials see the K1 and see that you have not gone through the fiancee/spouse CFO, they will not let her out of the country.

That is the requirement for a passport if you tell them that is the reason you need a passport. If you tell them you are going to HK as a tourist then they will issue you a passport. But when you try and leave the country with a K1 visa they will look for the CFO certification/stamp.

"Filipino emigrants or those leaving the country to settle permanently abroad are required to register with the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO). Part of its registration requirements is attendance in the Pre-Departure Orientation Seminar (PDOS) to prepare them for settlement overseas."

This is their requirement, I would think that they would enforce it for all of it's citizens regardless of where they were issued their visa.

I would not take the chance, could you visit her parents before the visa is issued and then go back to HK get the visa and then go to the US?

Why not just take the time while she is there to attend the seminar? I think it's a great idea to stop by and see the relatives one more time before relocating. Just make sure you have copies of any divorce decrees with you--they'll want to see them.

She will not be allowed to leave without the CFO stamp with the K1 visa in her passport. Marlene already had a passport before we applied for the K1 too, but she needed the stamp to depart the Philippines with the K1 visa.

There was a post here some time ago, where they were turned back at the airport and had to reschedule the flight and go to the seminar and then rebook the ticket.

Chances are that she will go through without a problem, but what if the CFO starts asking for XYand Z documents? Why create a problem. I say send mom and dad a post card once you are in the U.S.
