Signature on DS-230

So I'm getting together my documents for the IV packet, and I just realized...my husband didn't sign his FULL legal name on the forms (he left out his maternal last name--only signed first name and paternal last name). This matches his signature on the USCIS stuff that we sent in, and the signature on his passport...but doesn't match his full legal name, obviously.

QUESTION:

Are we risking an RFE for sending it like this? Should I have him send me a new signed form with BOTH last names? Am I obsessing? ;-)

I'm glad you've asked this question. This is something I've been confused about too.

On the I-130 I put my husband's first, middle and paternal last name, but failed to put his first, middle, paternal last name and maternal last name under the "other names used". I've already made him sign the DS-230 and DS-3032 and he always signs with his first and (paternal) last name, which works fine with the information I've included.

However, his birth certificate and passport have both last names (paternal and maternal) so now I don't know if I've been filling out the forms correctly.

I don't know which is the correct full name and which should go under "other names used", the one (paternal) last name, or the two (paternal and maternal) last names? (I see you said the full legal name would be the w/ the two last names but since we only use one last name here in the U.S. I just went with our name system, first, middle and last). If I've done this wrong it's too late now, so I'd also like to know how I should go about it during the NVC stage...

So I'm totally not even helping answer your question but hopefully there is someone else who can enlighten us

You really messed up!!!!!! Just kidding. You should be ok. The main item with the names on photos is in case a file is separated in some way. I forgot to write the name son my wife's photos completely and unless the attorney did (very unlikely) then we went without a hitch, photo wise.

Well, I've written his full name on the backs of the pictures. I'm just worried about his signature on the DS-230 form, since it doesn't include his maternal last name. I hope it's ok!

A signature is a signature and need not even be legible. No worries as long as all the signatures are consistent and probably now worries if they're not. For example, my wife signed in Chinese characters and mine is just initials and family name. No problems.

I've seen a whole package returned because the check wasn't legible but never because of a signature. I've suggested people do new forms when they signed their maiden name after listing their married name though. If a signature IS legible it should not be in a name that is actually different from their stated name on the petition or application.

It makes sense. If they can sign their DR documents (ie passport, cedula) with just their first and (paternal) last name without it posing an issue, it would be pointless for the NVC to make a bid deal about it.

If he used his names that are on the passport, it should be ok
