my comment was as i was reading. before commenting on the subject, i wanted to read the entire thread.

my comment to you wasn't a personal attack, it was a suggestion. you are quite funny though, you use words that no one else uses yet you throw out insults like a 5th grader. it is remarkably weird. one side of you wants to show everyone your large vocabulary (suggesting high intellect) and the other side just can't help acting like an immature adolescent.

something for you to think about: name calling and personal insults are the last resort of limited intelligence.

why was he charged? why not her? the article isn't very good. we can't tell from the article what prompted the charges.

the article does say this..

"Regardless of the age of the child, there's still a theory that a parent is always a parent, a child is always a child and, as a result, there truly can't be a consensual sexual act." That explains why the daughter isn't charged in this case. "The idea is the perpetrator is the parent and the victim is the child. We don't normally prosecute a person falling within the protected class, and you remain a member of the protected class even above age of consent."

States used to require blood tests before marriage......these two in the OP are ' consenting' adults and while what they are doing is not for me-the adult consenting aspect whilst ewwwie does put a strange spin on it for me.....But my major concern ( and I suppose the States that required blood tests concern) is possible pregnancy and birth defects.....

Of course ( IMO) if the daughter had been a child.......certainly jail the Dad.

The basis of why incest is wrong is in the fact that the relationship between a parent and a child is inherently skewed, the authoritative nature of the parent's role in the child's life does not magically disappear on majority. We are always our parent's children and we conduct ourselves accordingly. That does not mean an adult child will unquestioningly obey a parent (when does a child ever do that anyway?) what it means is that there is an historical emotional attachment that colours the way we respond to our parent's authority even when we are adults andvice verse. Never mind that every child has two parents and I am not sure how one can suggest that an adult child that deceives their mother in order to sleep with their father can be assessed as showing any degree of emotional maturity. Or perhaps this was a happy little menage a trois with all participants whole halfheartedly engaging in a bit of adult fun? :wacko:

Surprising to me that he was charged for this. Gross? Yes. Illegal? I don't think so. If the daughter had been mentally deficient, then I'd say that the state has a duty to intervene. Otherwise, I don't think so.

I was going to ask these things, too, and more. The article says "allegedly" (probably bedbug language before a charge has been proven). How did the alleged action come to light? Who reported it or discovered it? Do the State's laws against incest apply? Did the daughter grow up in the family home, or was she (for example) removed or otherwise raised separately from infancy, and the father met her when she was an adult and he (or both) didn't recognize the family connection at first?

Some of these questions might seem somewhat far-fetched, but DEDixon is correct that the article failed to mention most or all of them.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).
