Hello All,

When do we receive the certificate in our hand? is it when right after the Oath? or when the certificate will be mailed to us later after the Oat Ceremony?

The reason I am asking is because there is a chance my wife is moving during the N-400 filing process.

2004 - I129 filed & aproved

2/2005 - TN arrived in NJ

2006 - I751 Removal of conditional status- received 10YR GC

--------

11/27/2010 N400 sent to Lewisville TX Lockbox

12/2/2010 - $680 cashed

12/08/2010 - NOA

01/11/2011- Biometric

Suppose this can vary with the field office, but they do take your green card at the oath ceremony and as an immigrant, need some kind of piece of paper. They passed them out one by one at my wifes' oath ceremony, feel that is pretty common for all offices.

They take the green card when you register at the desk.

I like the idea of an 'oat' ceremony as I am a porridge man myself.

However, they always give you the certificate at the ceremony but only after you say your oath

We did our oath and then they called us up onto the stage to get our certificate and shake hands with the assembled grandees

That was December 2

On December 3 I applied for my passport

Yesterday I got an email saying my passport is on the way (you can register on the DOS site for the email notification)

I reckon the passport should arrive in a couple of hours from now

I have only heard of one person ever who did not get their certificate at the ceremony and that was because of a terrible admin error.

When you send off your original certificate for your passport, you will not have a GC or a certificate and you will feel very naked...

I got color copies before I sent it off (UPS store). The USCIS tells you to do that. It is legal.

They gave me my naturalization certificate after the oath ceremony. They took my green card and gave me my certificate (which I actually had to sign before the ceremony started). Also, make sure that your wife applies for her US passport right away. It is much better to get it right away in case an emergency arises and she needs to exit the country (which is exactly what happened to me and I was so happy to have processed my passport soon!).

August 23, 2010 - I-129 F package sent via USPS priority mail with delivery confirmation.

August 30, 2010 - Per Department of Homeland Security (DHS) e-mail, petition received and routed to California Service Center for processing. Check cashed. I-797C Notice of Action by mail (NOA 1) - Received date 08/25/2010. Notice date 08/27/2010.

After 150 days of imposed anxious patience...

January 24, 2011 - Per USCIS website, petition approved and notice mailed.

January 31, 2011 - Approval receipt notice (NOA 2) received by mail. Called NVC, given Santo Domingo case number, and informed that petition was sent same day to consulate.

Called Visa Specialist at the Department of State every day for a case update. Informed of interview date on February, 16 2011. Informed that packet was mailed to fiance on February, 15 2011.

February 21, 2011 - Fiance has not yet received packet. Called 1-877-804-5402 (Visa Information Center of the United States Embassy) to request a duplicate packet in person pick-up at the US consulate in Santo Domingo. Packet can be picked-up by fiance on 02/28.

March 1, 2011 - Medical exam completed at Consultorios de Visa in Santo Domingo.

March 9, 2011 at 6 AM - Interview, approved!

March 18, 2011 - POE together. JFK and O'Hare airports. Legal wedding: May 16, 2011.

PS

Social Security refuse to accept a US Passport as proof of citizenship so make sure your certicate is VERY SAFE and take it to the SS office once you have your passport

keep the copy as far as possible from the original

Never take the original abroad

That was a tip from the USCIS boss
