I-131 Application for Travel Document

Hello,

I am filling out the I-131 Application for Travel document and would like to know if anyone knows what the "A Number" is for Part 1? I would also like to know in part II if she will be applying for "advanced parole" or just applying for a "reentry permit"? She arrived on a K-1 Visa and we were married recently and in February she would like to travel home to China to see her family for the New Years Celebration. Any help would be great!

hope you get it in time, cutting it really close, isn't that less than 2 months away now? feb 3rd or something for 2011 right?

and i think the A# should be found on her visa?

If you are speaking of traditional New Years Eve (about three weeks from now), it's pretty safe to say she won't have her AP document in time to travel.

An example of the correct method for completing the form is included in the VJ examples.

And yes the "A" number is printed on the visa. It's her alien number. It follows her as an identifier until she naturalizes.

My wife's A# was not on her visa. I found her A# on her K1 NOA2 approval notice, you can also find it on the back of the I-94 arrival record, if the immigration officer wrote it on there. They wrote it on my wife's I-94.

You would be requesting an advance parole document for reentry.

If your wife wants to travel soon, you have the option of having the document sent to the embassy or a consulate in China for her to pick up there and then she can fly back to the US. Check out Part 3 of the form for that option.

Otherwise, like others have said, you may nto have enough time. AP can take 2-3 months after filing.

She is requesting Advance Parole. The option of picking it up in China is not valid for Advance Parole. If she left before she had that AP document approved and in her hand, she would automatically abandon/void her I-485 application upon exiting the country. The "pick-up" abroad option is good for a Reentry permit, which is different. Good luck.

That's right. I stand corrected on the pick up abroad, gotta be so careful with these instructions. Sometimes they're not very clear. And I actually meant part 7 not part 3 but regardless, this is only to be used with other visa categories/situations.
