Pre-Pay for K-1 Visa in London?

Hello,

My Fiance just paid his fee this morning on the hotline they provide. When they asked for his case number and application type, he accidentally said "fiance k3" instead of "fiance k1". He paid it and still got a receipt which doesn't directly say anything about his visa type. Will it matter that he said the wrong "k" or will his case number fix that automatically? I told him that as long as they filed it under his case number, which is a k-1, that he shouldn't worry, but he is and asked me to ask for him. Thanks to anyone who replies.

we're curious if anyone has tried paying the visa fee at the embassy instead of over the phone well before the interview? my fiance will be in london on friday for his medical and is thinking he may stop by there just to see if he can pay it in person since he'll be in the neighborhood... any ideas if it is worth trying?

I don't think you're allowed into the Embassy unless you have an appointment and proof of pre-payment. I couldn't even get into the London Embassy as a USC without an appointment. Sorry, one of you will have to call the Extortion Line.

Think of it as the embassy charges a fee to answer the phone.

The embassy will not allow drop-ins--to pay fees or to drop off application forms. You actually can get in the interview without the pre-payment. They still take payments on-site. But it speeds things up to have the payment step out of the way on interview day. So they highly push it. But they will not refuse you. Somebody just recently posted a review and said they missed the instruction to pay in advance and paid at the interview without getting told off.

Yeah i had a last minute nightmare of nearly not paying before the interview date but the lady I had the first part of my interview double checked if I had paid or not - implying you could pay on the day. however you might find it harder to get into the embassy in the first place without your MVR receipt because they ask to see it to get through to security and checking in at the reception.

The information that is sent from the US Embassy in London and on its website is confusing.

The packet 3 letter stated:

'All fiance(e) and K3/4 visa applicants must each pay a fee of $350 prior to their interview. Please contact the operator assisted service on.....'

The packet 4 letter stated:

'An outline of what your visit to the embassy will entail is included in the following link http://london.usembassy.gov/visaforms.html (form IV18 - immigrants visa applications or form IV19 - fiance(e) and K3 visa applicants.)'

If you go to the document for fiance(e) visas IV19 this form then states:

'All fiancé visa applicants and their children who will be immigrating with them to the United

States, are required to pay a non-refundable visa application fee of $350 per person, regardless

of age, at the Embassy on the day of the interview. Visa fees may be paid in cash, with a

certificated money order, or by debit or credit card (American Express, Diners Club,

Discover, Mastercard or Visa only).'

On the website http://london.usembassy.gov/immigrant-visas/iv_fees.html it states:

'K Visa Applicants pay the fee to the Operator Assisted Information Service prior to attending the visa interview.

Instructions concerning payment will be sent to you with the appointment letter.'

The appointment letter (IV19) says to pay on the day of the interview.

No wonder everyone is confused......

After reading through all this conflicting information, I pre-paid the fee by calling the operator assisted information service to ensure that I don't have any problems when I arrive for my interview.

When you pre-pay your fee you will receive a receipt via email. This states:

'Failure to present this MRV Fee Receipt at the Embassy

will result in cancellation of the appointment'

Given the above I am glad I have pre-paid. I wouldn't want to be turned away at the door.

Good luck everyone.

There was no instructions with my appointment letter regards pre-payment, and the link they send - says you pay it on the day.

Pretty shoddy of the Embassy really. If people aren't looking online on the forums, to find this out, what happens when they turn up on the day without paying first?

I actually wrote to the embassy pointing out all their webpage discrepancies (with links to offending pages) and explained how they confuse people. Of course I never got a reply.

They are still allowed in and pay at the payment window between seeing the document lady and the interviewer.

Ah right!

It is daft though, and fair play to you writing to them!

I know it says on the letter before (Packet 3?) that you pay in advance, which makes it even dafter that they don't mention it in the actual interview letter, and THEN have totally different info on the link they provide.

There's that many letters and forms with the process, and tbh, if I'd not been on these forums I may not have remembered the info from packet 3.
