The Senate has killed on a procedural motion, 57 to 40, a bill containing repeal of the Don't Ask, Don't Tell ban on gays in the military. The vote fell short of the 60 needed to move ahead on the defense authorization bill, which contained repeal of 17-year-old ban.

Unless something new can be worked out, repeal looks like it's dead, along with the entire defense bill, which includes pay increases for the military. By Reid's reckoning, it's been 48 years since the Senate has failed to act on a defense authorization bill.

Spineless Obama does not need legislation. He is Commander in Cheif and can simply sign off on it. He doesn't have the balls to stand up to Repubs. He caves every time. So how does ths play? It is the Republicans fault?

The DEMs messed things up for four years and lost control and didn't do something when they could, they even lost Obama's old seat which meant immediate loss of the Senate. Not to mention Kennedy's old seat. They shoot themselves in the head so many times and now it is the Repubs fault?

Obama could wipe this out with his signature. He is letting down millions of gay Americans and denyning them an opportunity to serve the country. Just to play games, he should be ashamed.

really nothing should be passed during it either if you want to get technical... imagine an employer telling you that you're fired, but then allowing you to work for an extra couple of months.... That's just begging for trouble.

i guess men 5'3" and under can breath a sigh of relief.... it would be hell knowing Homos are allowed to serve but a short person isn't.
