Liberals are angry? this is news? Liberals are ALWAYS angry.

House Democrats have passed a resolution saying they'll reject President Obama's tax deal with Republicans.

Vice President Biden went to Capitol Hill today to sell the plan to restive Democrats, especially liberals who are angry that the deal would extend Bush-era tax cuts to households making more than $250,000.

Biden's pleas were apparently ignored. The House Democratic Caucus passed a resolution by voice vote saying members will vote against Obama's tax deal in its current form. Biden had been saying that the deal could not be tweaked.

"If it's take it or leave it, we'll leave it," said liberal Rep. Lloyd Doggett of Texas.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., issued a statement saying House Democrats will continue to work with Obama and the GOP "to improve the proposal before it comes to the House floor for a vote."

Meanwhile, a group of 53 House Democrats led by Vermont's Peter Welch sent a letter to Pelosi and urged her to hold their ground against the White House. The letter called the deal "fiscally irresponsible" and "grossly unfair."

Obama had pledged during his campaign that he would only support tax cuts for the middle class. But he cut a deal with congressional Republicans in recent days to extend the tax cuts at all income levels, and agreed to other provisions sought by the GOP.

Obama said he did not want to hold Americans "hostage" and that the deal will stimulate the economy, even though it will add to the deficit in the short term.

Why are they so angry that I get to keep a little bit more of my money?

It's not your money, it's their money. As a matter of fact, if they had it their way you'd hand over your entire paycheck!

So the DEMs are denying millions of unemployed people their benefits in order to stand firm on tax cauts that aren't tax cuts.

Well at least someone has the balls to say...enough is enough, NO MORE unemployment benefits for YOU! And they say the Repubs are the party of "NO". What will happen now is that the Repubs will STILL continue the current tax rates AND stiff the unemployed following the DEMs "lead".

I LOVE Nancy Pelosi, I hope the keep her forever!

It is funny....

If Republicans block the bill it would read:

"Denying Unemployment to Millions"

When Dems do it, it's:

"Dems block tax cuts for the wealthy"

Gotta love media spin!

Not to be confused with Congressional Bukakke, which is what Paul wants to see.

Bukakke? Is that where the DEMS make the recession worse, increase the unemployment rates and then pull the rug out of unemployed people and leave them with nothing?

No wonder they were kicked out en mass.

i was surprised obama would grant the repubs a 2 year deal. it seemed to me that he had the upper hand - either raise taxes for the rich or for everyone, your choice repubs.

i mean the repubs supposedly hate taxes and it seems anyone could paint them as super insensitive to increase taxes for everyone in a recession only to save the rich? seems like a missed opportunity for obama. i would have called their bluff and if they were not bluffing, later i would blame every sign of a continued bad economy on the repubs for increasing taxes on everyone when they could have saved the middle class.

weird.

Not only that - he campaigned on ending the Bush Tax Cuts for the wealthy. That said, my guess is that he looked long and hard at the economy and felt that this compromise, while far from perfect, would be better for this country and the economy than playing hardball with the Obstructionists.

Or maybe he discovered that true bipartisan cooperation is a two-way street and not just convincing the GOP to go his way, as he has tried in the past. It's a lesson that Clinton learned late 1994/early 1995.

Now, does Obama want to be more like Carter, or Clinton?

Say what? What exactly are you referring to?
