A great marriage is not when the "perfect couple" comes together.

It is when an imperfect couple learns to enjoy their differences.

I meant 'useless' from a timing perspective, but you're right. I shouldn't generalize and let people make their own conclusions about whether it would be feasible in their situation. I suppose, if they already had a job lined up, and planned to continue in the capacity, and the EAD could be filed for almost immediately upon entry into the US, then there might not be any break in employment timing and it would be something to pursue.

But if someone is entering on the K1 and not getting married for 30-60 days, then they couldn't apply for the EAD until then, and the temp EAD would expire before they receive their actual EAD.

Or am I completely missing something here?

nope, you're not missing anything. I was just clarifying for those who weren't aware of the difference. One note I can make is that even entering on a K1, one can obtain a ss# within weeks and i have seen several use the JFK doc to their advantage and get a job. Some need to stop working until they receive their reg EAD, and some have no *gap*.

I am so NEW to all of this but I have one question.....................can I get my man his SS card after he arrives here-but BEFORE we get married?

thanks guys ;)

which poe is the best choice? nessa says that jfk is best because of some temporary work paper? is that paper only available at jfk or do other places (say miami, atlanta and such give the same paper?). we're looking at the east coast (florida to new york) and the gulf states (florida to texas) for the poe. any advice anyone?

Coming from Brazil, have you considered Houston IAH? Recently some new flights are being offered non-stop to Latin America and the prices ave been good. IAH is a lot less congested than Miami or Atlanta and your fiance should be processed quickly. Dallas might also be a good option for nonstop and time considerations, but have no advice about processing with immigration.

Colleen: yes, that is what I did. I think you have to wait something like 2 or 4 weeks after he gets there though.

and yes, Houston IAH is a good airport. It is one of Continental's major hubs.

won't the temp EAD expire when the K1 expires? and doesnt the K1 expire the day you get married? (within 90 days)

It's debateable... some believe it expires when the K1 expires (ie: after 90 days OR after you get married), while others believe it expires when the I-94 expires. I have seen both where peole have chosen to stop working after marriage, and those that worked up until the expiration of the I-94... honestly i dont know.. we didnt have the option of JFK :D

its kinda like looking at it as the VISA expires with marriage (or after 90 days), but the I-94 had a date of expiration.

You've just read our minds, today I was looking for flights so the POE is Houston and it offers good prices, plus since Charles is from Texas I can meet some family at the airport.

About the temp work thingy if it's only for 90 days it's worthless for us, We'll be busy getting married, on our honeymoon and starting our AOS process.

Thanks all
