Anyone else see the dream act creating huge delays in the immigration system? They finally got things under control after the 07 surge and now they want this? Sure they will have their own category but I am sure they will take staff away from other areas to run this thing. Anyone that has experienced the system that the feds have created knows that before anything like this can be put in the books they have to train new people at least a year in advance... It is just depressing the way this country is run...

The Dream Act was first introduced back in 2001 and reintroduced in 2009, with broad bipartisan support.

To date, 128 representatives^[28] and 39 senators^[27] (not including former Senator Edward Kennedy) co-sponsored the bill.

So...then why has it barely squeaked by the House and likely to die in the Senate in the 2010 lame duck session? Why do the vast majority of Americans vehemently oppose amnesty for illegal aliens? Why have repeated amnesties been shot down in congress since the American people wised up to what lunacy it is? Amnesty is toxic no matter how the looney Left wants to slice & dice it with sugar on top to disguise the sh*tty taste.

Majority Support the DREAM Act, Poll Finds

A poll commissioned by a family-advocacy group in Washington, D.C., indicates that support for the DREAM Act has increased nationally, even as tensions over immigration continue. The DREAM (Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors) Act would allow undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as young children a chance at permanent-residency status — if they meet specific requirements.

The poll, commissioned by First Focus and conducted by the Opinion Research Corporation, indicates that 70 percent of people in the U.S. are in favor of the legislation, an increase from the 58 percent who supported the measure in 2004. The bill is authored by U.S. Sens. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., and Richard Lugar, R-Ind., and would permit students who have lived in the country for at least five years to seek residency status if they steer clear of trouble, graduate high school or earn a GED, and complete at least two years of college or military service. The poll also reflects that 69 percent of respondents favor a provision that allows state governments to determine on their own if in-state tuition should be offered to undocumented-immigrant students.

First Focus President Bruce Lesley said the bipartisan support underscores the fact that most in the U.S. are largely concerned about the economic ramifications of disallowing thousands of students to continue their education after high school.

Why do you specifically oppose it?

One of the reasons I oppose it is because no sooner will these students (up to age 30 something, last I heard) are legal and 18yrs old..... they will turn right around and reward the law breakers who brought them here with Visa's to immigrate too.

.....Not to mention other family members from the "old country" who have yet to come.

All of this began with Illegals jumping the line on other hopeful immigrants.

It would create more incentives for illegals to sneak into the country, especially with children.
