let's recap - an illegal can intentionally take their children on a dangerous journey through the desert, risking their life and that of the children - and the us government rewards that effort with legalization.

were a usc to do that, they'd be investigated by cps, have their kids taken away, and the usc would be facing fines and jail time.

Are you supporting U.S. citizens who take their kids on dangerous journeys through the desert? How exactly should they be rewarded? Similar to how illegal aliens are rewarded? What exactly is that reward? I have yet to meet an illegal alien who is living the good life in the U.S.

Do you not see that the motive for dragging a kid through a desert is quite a bit different for an illegal alien than it would be for an American citizen? The only way an American would need to sneak across the desert is if he is trying to sneak into Mexico. And, if some US citizen thinks the best way to get to Mexico is on some dangerous journey, then that person is probably in need of prison.

From what I have read about the Dream Act, it's not the illegal alien parents who would benefit. It would be the kids, who would get the blessing of dealing with the USCIS, a fantastic reward to be sure. Are you into punishing the kids beyond that?

Of course the parents would benefit.

The path to citizenship gives the kids the right to try and bring their parents here in a legal manner as well....

Here's my gripe with the whole deal, just to summarize.

--If you pass the DREAM Act, it tells other poor Mexicans that as long as they just get across the border things will be alright. Their children will at least have a shot at a better future, even if they won't. The USA goverment will, in another fit of liberal idiocy, pass another similar act in a another decade or so--all they have to do is wait it out. It simply encourages law-breaking behavior and induces illegal immigration.

--If they're are no visas available, then stay at home. This is not news in any way but getting visas from ANY Third World Country is difficult. Lord, what entitles Mexicans to reap the rewards for bad behavior? Is it just because they are lucky enough to share a boundary with the US? If it's all about the kids, then what about the poor kids from Ethiopia or Thailand? They're not special? They don't deserve a chance to live and study in the US?

--If you pass the DREAM Act, it tells other to-be-LEGAL-immigrants, waiting in line for official approval that they basically are a bunch of suckers. It is such a slap in the face that it readily makes my blood boil.

--Yes, this is all about rewarding the innocent bystander 16-year old who just wants to graduate HS so that he can go on to college and become a lawyer or a doctor. I get that. But guess what, if you naturalize him, who do you think he'll be filing petitions for as soon as he hits 21? His law-breaking, criminally idiot parents. As will his right be, then, as a naturalized USC.

--And no, I've yet to come across anyone being in favor of this Act. Oh wait, there was that blond girl in Politics class that supported it. But then again, she would also say things like, "I want to help the world. How can I help?"

obviously i'm not supporting either situation. and i have met an illegal living the good life - only he's no longer illegal, he was an '86 amnesty beneficiary.

no kidding there's different motivations - yet in both situations it puts the kid in danger. i suppose to some that danger to the kid is ok

you didn't read the dream act then - the parents would not benefit immediately - but down the road they can.
