Can someone please tell me how long it usually takes to have your green card in hand to enter the US after the interview date for a green card. We will be going to Montreal and we didn't want to book a returning flight yet until we knew how soon after we can leave. Thanx guys!

Um you dont get a green card at the interview... if you applied for a CR-1 IR-1 you get the green card about a month after you enter the US.

If you applied for a K-1 you get the green card AFTER you apply for AOS and get approved.

Since you dont state what you filed for no one can really help you.

Montreal will issue a VISA, for US entry.

Your I-129f was approved in 5 days from your NOA1 date.

Your interview took 67 days from your I-129F NOA1 date.

AOS was approved in 2 months and 8 days without interview.

ROC was approved in 3 months and 2 days without interview.

Ha, sorry. My first time posting something...ever.

We are a CR-1 status. So after our interview date, we can enter the states right away? Then will they mail us her green card, or do we have to go back and pick it up?

No you cant just go enter the states, she needs to wait for her VISA in her passport. They will take her passport away and you have to wait to get it back with the visa in it.

THEN you can enter the states and activate the CR-1 when going to the USA. AFTER she activates the CR-1 and moves to the USA she will get the green card in the mail.

I do appreciate your help so far. One more question for ya...

Do you know how long we have to wait to get her passport/visa back after the interview?

And I need to be there for the interview correct?

2-3 weeks at the longest 1 week at the shortest. It depends if you signed up for DHL pick up or if you are bringing an express mailer for regular post.

The US citizen does not need to be there for the interview. The interview is for the canadian who is applying for the visa.

Is there a number that I can call to ask questions. I have never even heard of the whole DHL pickup and all that good stuff. I'm feeling very in the dark on some things.

No they dont take phone calls but you can try emailing them which may not get a responce either. Trying to contact montreal is pretty useless lately specially with the HUGE backlog.

Most of the people who fall under the new interviewing guidelines for montreal are made to log on a website and select a DHL location to pick up their visa at, as well as pay their visa fees online. Some CR-1/IR-1s have done this recently but most of them are k-1.

were you given an interview date in montreal already?

Yes, my wife was given January 11th. We have her medical scheduled for the 5th. I was just trying to figure how I am going to get up b/c of my job here in the states. But if I may not have to be there that would make things a whole lot easier. I thought they needed to validate the marriage by having both of us there?

Thats what bringing a wedding photo album is for!, its not required for you to be there but you can go if you want. There are limited seats in the place and its generally JAMMED with people to the point where many are standing at the back of the room. If you feel better going by all means go but still bring the other interview evidence with you.

You may want to ask her if she had signed up for DHL pick-up or if shes getting a regular post Express Mailer and bringing that to the interview, they still will use thos but they are switching over to DHL pick-ups because its faster.

Can you please explain to me this whole DHL pickup location or express mailer for regular post. Are you saying that we can give them something so they can just mail her passport back to her home in Canada so she doesn't have to wait in Montreal?

You have to, they dont offer same day pick up... its part of the instructions. She either signs on https://usvisa-info.com/ and picks a DHL location close to her to pick up the passport or she gives them a large size prepaid (with signature required) Express Post Mailer and they mail it back to her.

It doesnt really sound like either of you are prepared for the interview...

Sorry for the bother, but we are having trouble scheduling the DHL pickup location. The website that they gave us requires you to schedule an appointment first and then pick a DHL location. We have already been given our interview so do you know how I would go about doing that. Also, if you knew of any numbers to contact the consulate, that'd be great. I've only come across automated telling services.

Thanks alot!
