So I am really trying hard to get everything in place to submit the AOS but keep hitting roadblocks. So far its been the medical/vaccination report due to various factors. First was I couldn't see the Dr until I was on my wife's medical insurance, I couldn't get on the medical insurance until I had a SSN. That came (temp from SSN office) almost 3 weeks after application. Then it was another 2 to get on the benefits before I could go in to the Dr.

So I finally get into them, miss out a part of the 693, go back today & they sign it, take 1 copy for them & send me on my way. No matter what I tried they said they didn't have the needed supplies to seal the envelope. Now I have to take an extra copy for me, then seal it myself.

Can ANYONE say if this may hurt me? As long as I follow the guidelines listed in the instructions, surely I'll be OK? We are desperate to get this in before the new year as its dragging now. Plus I need to get to work as soon as humanley possible to pay for the full wedding in December.

as well as this, how long does the permanent residence typically take? I see the Chicago office has a 4 month timeframe, has anyone had any luck with sooner? Work Authorizations as well? Same?

We have another problem looming, we can't afford to submit the AP right now, & we have a wedding we are involved in in Montreal in April. How long can they take or can we possibly request an emergency one in the New Year to be safe?

Thanks to all & good luck to everyone in this fight for love.

AP is free why cant you aford to submit the AP with the AOS?

also it doesnt sound like you went to a civil surgeon to get your papers done... because a civil surgeon does not need any kind of medical insurance clearance to do the paper work or a medical on you. You would pay out of pocket for it.

If you submit your applications for EAD (I-1765) and AP (I-131) at the same time as your Adjustment of Status application (I-485), the fees for the EAD and AP are waived.

When you say doctor...you do mean the civil surgeon, right? They are the only ones who can complete the I-693 for you. If they don't have the supplies to put the form in a sealed envelope, I strongly suggest you buy the envelope and ask them to seal it in front of you (and I would also recommend you ask them to prepare another sealed one and one that is unsealed, for your copy...I've heard that sometimes USCIS loses the medical stuff, so you would want one extra).

The Chicago lock box is only the drop off point of your application package...the application is forwarded to the National Benefits Center in Missouri for processing.

The average processing time for adjustment of status is 4 months...it should take less than 2 months for you to get a biometrics appointment and from there, receive your EAD and AP.

Thanks, for some reason I had had it in my head the the AP form for travel had a fee as well.

The reason we waited for the benefits to come through was the xray during the medical in London detected something so we wanted to get into a Dr to get it checked at the same time.

Now you have me worried it won't be accepted, I have seen the service the Dr in Texas does for this.

It has to be a civil surgeon listed on the list of civil surgeons from the USCIS website. It wont be accepted if its just any random doctor. MUST be a civil surgeon.

https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.type&OfficeLocator.office_type=CIV here is the locator.

You don't need medical insurance to see a Civil surgeon (CS). A regular doctor does not complete your I-693, it needs to be someone from this list: https://egov.uscis.gov/crisgwi/go?action=offices.type&OfficeLocator.office_type=CIV (enter your zipcode to find one in your area).

A regular CS would have the "required supplies to seal the envelope" so I think you didn't see a CS. The i-693 isn't covered by insurance either. You might be able to get missing shots on insurance, but a CS won't charge it to insurance...

The cost for AOS is $1070. You can include your EAD and AP applications with that and their fees are waived.

The EAD and AP will take around 2 months from date of NOA1.

There is an AOS thread in my signature that may help you.

Wow..I couldn't find a civil surgeon that would accept medical insurance..from what I have been told medical insurance does not cover INS medicals...cost me about $300 each for me and my daughter

They don't. The OP didn't see a CS. They saw a regular doctor, which isn't good enough for the I-693.

Thanks,

Took the advice & called the nearest one. They took me & now I have the correct sealed envelope & the possibility of chicken pox (needed it for vaccine completion). Cost me $135 for the pleasure.

For the AP form, when you apply for it do you just need to write that its an important family trip that you need to make on the supporting letter? Reason is my wife & I have been asked to participate in a very close friends wedding which the AP is a base cover for in case the permanent resident card doesn't come in time.

You can just write " attending/participating in very close friends wedding on ( date here, place here ) "

There is no supporting letter required. You are applying for AOS which is your eligibility.

Please read the AOS thread in my signature that has the list of required documents, you will see no "supporting letter" in that list. You are not the only person who thinks this letter is required (everyone thinks this even though the instructions state otherwise).

If you know what date you need to leave by write that on the form, otherwise write "unknown" and "unknown" in the date and length of trip.
