A day that will live in Infamy......for two reasons for me:

1st: I remember and thank all veterans and those currently serving for your dedication and service. I don't forget it.

2nd: Alla and Leonid have been in this country one year exactly to the day. We are still the happy family and our love grows every day.

Phil (Lockport, near Chicago) and Alla (Lobnya, near Moscow)

As of Dec 7, 2009, now Zero miles apart (literally)!

I put the flag up at my office this morning. I couldn't remember if this was one of the days that it should fly at half mast, so kept it at the top of the pole. I do lower it on September 11th and Memorial Day.

one of the days that it should fly at half mast

The Congress, by Public Law 103 308, as amended, has designated December 7 of each year as "National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day."

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BARACK OBAMA, President of the United States of America, do hereby proclaim December 7, 2010, as National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day. I encourage all Americans to observe this solemn day of remembrance and to honor our military, past and present, with appropriate ceremonies and activities. I urge all Federal agencies and interested organizations, groups, and individuals to fly the flag of the United States at half staff this December 7 in honor of those American patriots who died as a result of their service at Pearl Harbor.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this seventh day of December, in the year of our Lord two thousand ten, and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred and thirty-fifth.

BARACK OBAMA

I looked up the proper displaying of the American Flag on holidays. There are three holidays that we all know of that the flag should be displayed at half mast. They are Memorial Day (until noon), Patriots Day (September 11th) and Pearl Harbor Day (December 7th). There are two other days that I never heard of and they both fall on Sundays. My office is closed on most weekends so I won't be coming down just for that.

Sorry I missed it yesterday.

What are the two Sundays?

Peace Officer's Memorial Day and Flag Day?

The holidays are Peace Officer Memorial Day in May and Firefighter Memorial Day in October. I'm surprised the federal employee union hasn't gotten them the day off for such notables as National Korean War Veterans Armistice Day (July 27) or Gold Star Mothers Day (last Sunday in September) or Navy Day on October 27th. :hehe:

I'm pretty sure they'll get the last Sunday in Sept. off.

Korean War is the forgotten war so nobody gets anything off for that one. Although, they're about to remember real quick! Kim Jong-Il is actin real ill lately. Time for us to head back over there and this time, we're getting a peace treaty!
