How long to get visa number for FB-1 Visa

My visa type is FB-1. Can someone advise me on how long I've got to wait to receive a visa number for their case? My case have been completed since September 3, 2010 but no visa number is currently available for my case.

About 4 1/2 years

07/18/2005 Consulate Received package from NVC

11/09/2005 Medical

11/16/2005 Interview APPROVED

12/07/2005 POE Minneapolis

12/17/2005 Wedding

12/20/2005 Applied for SSN

01/14/2005 SSN received in the mail

02/03/2006 AOS sent (Did not apply for EAD or AP)

02/09/2006 NOA

02/16/2006 Case status Online

05/01/2006 Biometrics Appt.

07/12/2006 AOS Interview APPROVED

07/24/2006 GC arrived

05/02/2007 Driver's License - Passed Road Test!

4 1/2 years from the date the case was completed?

4 1/2 years from your priority date. The priority date should be on your application receipt.

Your case was apprived by USCIS i presume then you have the 4.5 years wait as mentioned.

January of next year would be four years. I did not realize it could take so long to process a visa and what I was waiting for is to be admitted into a University in CA. Would it be logical then to apply for a student visa while waiting for this FB-1 visa to be approved?

You can apply for a student visa see if you'll be able to get one. who petitioned for you..?

My mom petitioned for me.

Gonna Assume you're Single and your mom is a US Citizen... After looking over your information you have compeleted all the necessary information like the Financal Documents, Payment of Immigrant Visa Fee Payment and form submission. From what i see there is nothing else that will be required of you. You are awaiting packer 4 (Medical/Interview). The DOS request a visa slot for your case and so must wait until your interview can be scheduled.. per your current timeline.

That is right I am single and my mom is a US citizen and awaiting packet 4. One thing though is, I did not realize it would take so long.
