marry on tourist visa?

What would happen if my fiancee came from Costa Rica on a tourist visa and we got married here in the US? We've already started the K-1 process but she's asking me what would happen if she came on the tourist visa and we got married. Can anyone chime in on that?

10/01/2010: Engaged
10/29/2010: I-129f sent UPS to TX
11/02/2010: I-129f delivered to TX service center @ 12:13 PM
11/08/2010: Check to Homeland Security cleared
11/13/2010: NOA1 received

04/26/2011: NOA2 received

06/07/2011: Interview date

06/09/2011: Visa received

06/18/2011: US entry

06/25/2011: Marriage

07/28/2011: Employment Authorization Document filed

10/03/2011: EAD approved

10/06/2011: EAD received

09/30/2012: Matthew Jacob born!

08/27/2013: I-751 sent FedEx to Vermont

01/11/2014: New green card received

She could not stay in the US if that is what you are asking; entering with a tourist visa with the intent of immigrating is visa fraud.

Getting married in the USA on a tourist visa is not a problem as such, but you would need to start again with a spousal visa, thus wasting time and money- there is no "transfering" from one visa to another.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.

I considered marrying on a tourist visa as well but realized I didn't want to go back to the Philippines after the wedding and THEN file for spouse visa. I didn't want us to be apart so soon after the wedding!

People were saying though that if I could prove that I had no prior intent of marrying (as in, if I entered the US with no intention to get married or anything) then maybe I could adjust status when I get there. However for your case, since you have already filed for a K1 Visa, it's a little more difficult to prove.

Yes, unless she already has a tourist visa or is wealthy, she wouldn't get one anyway.
