TAIF, 22 August 2006 — Police in Taif caught a woman violating the law by being behind the steering wheel of a moving car, the Al-Jazirah newspaper reported yesterday.

The woman, an Arab foreigner married to a Saudi man, was immediately arrested. The husband was called to the police station to pick up his spouse.

The cops instructed the husband to make sure his wife does not repeat such a terrible crime as driving a car, which, according to the defenders of the law can lead to immoral behavior.

Considering how many men drive in Saudi Arabia (and the lax enforcement of speed limits and other basic driving rules) apparently it’s not quite as immoral to endanger the lives of selves and others by speeding, changing lanes erratically without signaling and disregarding traffic signs.

But a woman behind the wheel? For shame!

Ahhh, feel the peace.

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

Oh boy!

Tell me about the 'Islam made the statut of women better, they are respected' and all the jazz...

heehee, how could anyone argue that Islam does anything for women? The best they can do is try to argue it makes the genders more "equal" by being separate. Now I will go run and hide.

Islam has been hijacked by Wahabbists, unfortunately. From my (admitedly) rudimentary research into it, Islam gave women rights and a position far above what they had in pre-Islamic Arabia and most of the rest of the world, for that matter. Since then, Islamists have been using the very tools Islam gave to protect women to instead oppress them. For example, the hijab. Originally it was meant to protect women from unwanted attention; it was a way of saying "I am a human being who deserves respect, I am not an object". But in places like the KSA, Pakistan, etc. women who don't wear the hijab are beaten by the religious police.

Islam has a bunch of house cleaning to do.

Actually if anyone you guys knew anything about true Islam, not what the media feeds you, you would notice that the women's rights that where fought for in the Sixties, Muslim women have had them for 1400 years. Actually if Muslim women demanded all there rights, poor men.

Nothing in Saudi Arabia is Islamic. Islam does not forbid women to drive.

Muslim women drive everyday in every country, including Muslim Countries, except in Sadia Arabia!!!

Saudi Arabia is an Islamic Monarchy, don't they follow the sunna, sharia and coran and isn't it a model to makes the laws of this country? no?

Unfortunatly there is a lot of Places, that Abuse Islam. I wear the Hijab and I look at it as a gift. It Identifies me, I get harrassed less ( in the USA), People look at me for who I am, rather then what look like or what I'm wearing.

They follow what they believe as the Sunnah. Unfortuanatly it is full of abuse. They have diformed it. The monarchy itself is corrupt. That is not the Islam I believe in.
