A couple of people told my husband and I to send a copy of his birth certificate along with the I-130, although I don't remember it being on the list of required documents. The one thing they all said was to get it legalizado inextensa. When I translate that word on google it says "unextended" but that doesn't really help explain whether it expires or not so I'll just ask my husband the next time we talk.

You don't have to send in a copy of his BC with the I-130, just of yours (the USC)(and only if that's what you're using to prove US Citizenship). You will need the legalized, inextensa version of his for NVC. Inextensa just means it's the long form that contains all of the info (@ parents and stuff), as opposed to the "extract."

Doesn't the birth certificate expire as well?

Mr tee what docs do u recommend we get now while we wait?

After you received the NOA1 there isn't much you have to do but spend time building a stronger relationship with your partner. Once your NOA2 arrives, you need to complete the affidavit and get a letter from your current employer (stating you have a job with them and you make $$$ a year), also you need a letter from your bank (stating how much money you deposited in the past year), and also your 3 months of recent pay stubs and 3 years of tax returns.

Their are 2 affidavits (I-134 and I-864). The I-134 is very easy to complete and is usually needed for the K1 interview. The I-864 takes longer to complete and more evidence and its usually only needed for AOS but sometimes asked for during the K1 interview.

To be safe just do them both and prepare. When your fiance(e) gets her Interview Packet, it will tell you what form you need to bring. For now I would just complete them both and wait until 2 weeks before the interview date to get a letters from your employer and bank.

Also, your Dominican born fiance/fiancee needs to begin completing the forms (you can practice at this point and finalize later; they are available online), get their birth certificate (long version), passport photos, etc.

My fiancee and I did all of these things while waiting. Try not to drive yourself crazy. Just use this to prepare. Also gather all the evidence you will need for your interview (phone records, email, pics, travel documents, etc). The last thing my fiancee and I did was update our forms. She got her police report (30 days within interview date), reprinted visa forms, and I updated my income/employment documents.

I had everything done 2 months before the interview but had to get new letters (dates closer to the interview). If you have any questions I'll help, I just finished the process. I wish you the best on your journey.

and what of military? we don't necessarily have employment letters (would initial or new re-enlistment contracts work with that? Or should I make up a letter and get it signed by my immediate supervisor?)

I would have your commanding officer sign one. While your immediate supervisor *might* work, it'd be best to have your commander sign it. You might even want to get the official memo template from your unit admin and type it up yourself, so it says exactly what is required. Then you can attach a copy of your enlistment contract/oath to that when you submit everything.

MrTee12,

Thank you for "sticking around," even though your now wife is in the US. Your advice is much appreciate by us, the people who are still going through the process and are painfully away from our loved ones. Thank you very much! Muchisimas gracias.

If you have questions about your wife's adjustment status or next steps in her process, perhaps I can help you since I am a naturalized citizen, and I mostly remember what I had to go through. Funny thing, I remember that after my naturalization ceremony I was SO happy to be finally done with immigration procedures, forever! Who would have known that I would fall madly in love with a non-US citizen? Now, I need to have even more patience than I had years ago...

De Nada. Many others helped me, so I don't mind. No one knows how much time, energy, emotions, money, is poured into this process. So its hard to talk to others in our daily lives about this (and for them to understand). So coming here and connecting with others and sharing with them information they need is self-rewarding. Thank you for your acknowledgment. You're more valuable to this forum than I am...so thank you as well!

There's something else I am unsure about and I may as well post the question here.

I know the beneficiary has to undergo a medical exam but does the petitioner need to as well?

Thanks in advance for any replies :)
