ughhh...I typed a long reply and then my palm barely the touchpad on my laptop and went back and erased my reply

brief summary instead...

I paid a lot of money for culinary school and the only reason I got anywhere is because I had connections. The only people I know from culinary school who are still working in restaurants are people who also knew the right people. Everyone else has either gone back to school or are working in offices or doing temp work. I know an associates from a culinary school (you still have to do general ed stuff so it's actually a "degree" program) is different than a bachelors but still...it's a lot of money for a business that relies on knowing the right people to get a good job. At the university I'm at now, people are told up front that if they choose a certain degree program they will not get anywhere if they stop at a BA. Most of these require at least a masters to get somewhere if that's what you want to do.

Life is a ticket to the greatest show on earth.

I saw that piece on the Newshour a few nights ago. I thought it was good to see young people making their best efforts in a tough economy. But mostly I was just disappointed that they didn't show the young lady being trained as a dominatrix. Who wants to see her walking dogs in the park when I'd rather see her in tight latex and 5" heels?

If I could be guaranteed all my clients were from Wall Street, I'd be a dominatrix...with purpose.

They're not into you. They like their sex kinky. They get Brooklyn Hassidim to dress up in drag and smack them with their tallis while screaming "Oy vey!'. Makes every money manager cum a load instantly,.

Yeah, the way you worded it there - I would have been on a train halfway to Arizona before they even had a chance to thank me.

I'd have to tell you that it's just amazing to me how we are looking to fill 20 some odd entry level positions currently and I have yet to run a cross a single resume from a recent college grad. On top of that, there are very few resumes that I am seeing period. One would expect that at this level of unemployment in this area, we'd be flooded with candidates and would have a wide range of applicants to pick from. Instead, we're looking at very few candidates and may just head down the road to bring in temps for temp-to-hire opportunities. In this labor market, it's the oddest thing. I just don't get it.

Out of curiosity, what kind of positions are they? I mean, what types of degree holders are you looking for? And if it isn't a secret, what level of compensation are you offering?

These are finacial services positions in a variety of specialties. It really matters little what degree an applicant has - I've been quite successful in this industry over the last decade or so and I have a Masters in Polictical Science. Some positions require specific language skills - mostly Spanish but this is FL and there's certainly no shortage of people fluent in these languages.

Compensation for entry level jobs isn't exactly great but I'd say that it's reasonable. Don't really like to discuss figures. What I would say is that entry level compensation hasn't changed all that much over the years when adjusted for inflation. And I don't remember having had this little interest in such positions at times when the unemployment rate was half what it is today.

That's what I don't understand.
