Good day VJers,

Just need your input. My wife a USC has been unemployed for 2 months now as she had to study for some exams she took late October. We have a co sponsor we filed with the AOS. My question is this: Would her current job employment status affect my interview in any way as my interview is in 2 weeks time. I have asked this question before but the reason why I am concerned is because I read on here lately that someone got the form 221g because his wife was out of work for just a month and was asked to refill some forms and ask for a later interview date.

Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

The Consular officer will consider the totality of the circumstances before them. In and of itself, a short period of unemployment is not a huge issue but we know nothing else about your case or joint sponsor. Taking time off to study for a professional exam, like the Bar, CPA or Medical related boards, is one thing, while the final exam for a Nail Technician license is another matter. How about some more details of the case and work history.

Thank you soo much for your response. Well she wanted time off to study for her DAT tests which was end of october 2010. but her work wouldnt give her the needed time off so she had to quit at the begining of October. SHe finished school December last year and just got the job in March. We filed just after she got her job but also included her dad as our co sponsor even though she was making well over the poverty level at that time.

I'm afraid you're still not painting a clear picture. It appears you have a qualified joint sponsor and your wife is preparing to attend Dental school. She provided an affidavit of support and one from a joint sponsor at a time when she was working but when you are asked about her work at the interview, you'll need to be truthful about her current status and future plans. I doubt the finances will be a major issue at your interview but have no idea about anything more in the "totality of circumstances" the Consular officer will be considering.

Your going through the toughest, Consulate that sees the highest percentage of fraudulent cases, so be well prepared. The most important factor will be the time you've actually spent together and second will be how prepared you are for the interview.
