That's their problem

Obviously it's not. Obviously the attacks on Muslims, the hatred towards them by a lot of people, is a big deal.

The media feeds on this hatred day in and day out.

That means it's everyones problem. Well, at least for the Islamic community it is. They are the ones who ultimately suffer because of these actions.

Gee, I feel like I'm in grade school again. Here are the first two paragraphs, mind you I agree with most of the opinion, but it's opinion nonetheless. I've highlighted opinion words as well as factual additions that serve not to relay the important facts of the story but to contribute to the overall reaction one is supposed to have.

It all began a year and a half ago, with a quarrel over a bowl of water. A group of women farm workers were suffering in the heat near a village in Pakistan's Punjab province. Aasia Noreen, an illiterate 45-year-old mother of five, offered them water, but was rebuffed. Noreen was a Christian, they said, and therefore her water was unclean - sadly, a common taunt hurled at Pakistan's beleaguered Christians. But rather than swallowing the indignity, she mounted a stout defense of her faith.

Word of the exchange swiftly filtered through the village of Ittan Wali, in Sheikhupura district. The local mullah took to his mosque's loudspeakers, exhorting his followers to take action against Noreen. In a depressingly familiar pattern, her defense of her faith was twisted into an accusation of blasphemy, according to her family and legal observers familiar with the case. As a frenzied mob pursued her, the police intervened, taking her into custody. But far from protecting her, they arrested and charged Noreen with insulting Islam and its prophet. And on Nov. 8, after enduring 18 months in prison, she was sentenced to death by a district court, making her the first woman to suffer that fate. (See how WikiLeaks' disclosure fueled anti-U.S. anger in Pakistan.)

The author of the piece has lofty ambitions of writing romance novels.

Are you telling us that the article that the OP posted is in fact a total lie and falsification ?

http://news.yahoo.co...W5wYWtpc3RhbmNo

There ARE facts within the article, however, the title of this thread is a lie.

But I guess YOU know better since YOU'VE lived as a xtian in Pk. *sarcasm*

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Oh I see, when you've clearly been schooled, you refuse to answer questions directed back at you and then make outlandish statements that are in an entirely different stratosphere than what everyone is asserting. Great approach, bravo.

I don't think the Muslims (in America) are discriminated against any more than any other minority. Matter of fact, from my life experiences I've heard very hateful speech in person, over the internet, and over gaming chats (Xbox live) towards blacks, jews, Asians, mexicans, Indians, and gays. I've not heard a single peep in person ever in my life or online (Xbox live) about Muslims. In my opinion they are the least discriminated group in America or at least close to the bottom of the list.

The media has a relationship with the public at large, it doesn't overtly set agenda.

I thought the media was supposed to report actions/reactions/the truth?

What you're essentially saying, is that if the majority of people became pedophiles, then pedophiles would be shown in a good light and the rest would be outcasts?

I think what I'm saying is rather less ridiculous than what you just said.

Actually, I'm not Muslim, I'm more of the anti-religion type personally. I'm glad to read that you think most Muslims though would not be in support of this - I would agree.

I think the bigot label is thrown around because of the pretty clear anti-Muslim agenda that some posters here have, not for simply disagreeing with certain aspects of Islam as they are applied in other parts of the world.

My mistake. Then this thread is free from a single Muslim condemning this law, and it's application per the OP. Curious that...

Sofyaa doesn't ask a great question she merely again avoids the topic.

If you haven't encountered anti-Muslim hate speech on the internet, that's just crazy. Maybe you're just not classifying it as hate speech for some reason.

When I say online I am strictly talking about voice chats on Xbox Live among young kids/adults ages 14 to 25. We've all seen trolls over the internet write all sorts of crazy speech. But that is just typing on a computer. I'm talking about live events (in person) or live voice (xbox live).

The only forum I frequent is VJ and if you think of all the posts on VJ you're not gonna find good examples of hate speech (towards blacks, gays, indians, etc.). Yes, there are some biased articles being posted and I've seen a certain member say some preposterous things about jews lately but there is a huge difference between being called a Ni66er or a cracker in person than reading a post on VJ. Or the 100 times I've heard someone do a "gay voice" or the Indian "7-eleven voice" or the "Mexican voice". That is something I've heard a lot.

Hate speech is something you hear or see, I'm not calculating online discussions among the VJ regulars into the formula. And still I rarely see hate speech on VJ, but if you'd care to provide a link I'd be more than happy to examine it to see if it compares to being called a ni66er or a fa66ot or a jew boy or a white boy or a spic or chink eyes in person.
