True. "An eye for an eye" does come from the bible, right?

And then Jesus said, “You have heard that it was said, ‘Eye for eye, and tooth for tooth.’But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you." Matthew 5:38-42

However people do take the old testament words on the subject and misuse it as an excuse to retaliate against people who wrong them. I do believe the eye for eye, tooth for tooth in the old testament is about legal punishment and not individual retaliation.

That's an insult to all Pakistani people.

No it isn't. Pakistan does have lower living standards than the US, and a huge gap between the very rich and the very poor. To say nothing of corruption in the political system. Those are facts.

Please I am not trying to be insulting or attacking in any way but really do you just enjoy poking until someone responds or are you really not able to grasp what people are saying?

People have been burned at the stake, enslaved, jailed for mincegnation, lynched, etc. In the US. When did this country stop being backwards and barbaric?

the usa also restricts marriage to 1 man and 1 woman.

Yes, and many of us remember how routine it was for rapists to be acquired because the victim was found to have been "asking for it" by the way she dressed or some mannerism deemed to be provocative. Today, drug laws are biased against minorities and lessened for more affluent users who are merely " experimenting". Our system of justice is inherently biased toward those who have the money or juice to influence the outcome of their trial. We have a way to go here. Start in your own backyard before you point fingers.

All I said is the analogy was bad. You can't excuse a law of a country in the year 2010 because in the 1600s we burned witches

yr right, we don't need analogies from 400 years ago. but it's certainly within my parents' living memories when black americans, especially in the south, lived with the very real fear of being dragged from their beds in the middle of the night and hung from a tree because somebody said they whistled at a white woman. and my parents aren't that old. the people that did this were very open about their identities, posing for photos in front of the murdered men, because they knew there was no crime being committed, as far as the state was concerned. this was a disturbingly short amount of time ago.

Your posts are ridiculous and hypocritical. You're also in deep denial about what you post. The death penalty is imposed for crimes that the state determines deserve it. There are plenty of complaints about imposing the death penalty in the US disproportionately due to race, gender, local, etc. If you can't condemn it for any crime, you lose credibilty for condemning it for a specific crime.

The same goes for abortion as a human rights crime against innocent babies.

You take the cake. I know your spiel only too well. We are talking about a woman who has already spent 18 months in jail for blasphemy against Islam, and has now been sentenced to death for said crime.

You can cry all you want about threads you deem "anti Muslim" or "threatening to your religion" but it's shocking news for those of us living in civilized country's.

Try and twist and turn this topic as much as you want but it still remains a fact that what is happening to this woman, and why it is and by who.

* On a side note, I find your post not only heartless, but pathetic drivel.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Problem is even if something happened 1 year ago and the problem was corrected, it is already pathetic to point to the corrected problem to try to say "well look, they did this and they did that during these dates 'so there' "

I don't understand the point in doing that. We are talking about right now, today and tomorrow, not generations ago...

it nevertheless happened. it's there, it's part of the us identity. and it's not to have a "so there" moment, but rather to point out that while a lot of the world has evolved, social justice wise, when you take a look back at how recently these horrific things happened right here in this country, you realize that it was a long, hard struggle for the us to get there, and it's going to be a long hard struggle for other places too. social justice takes a back burner when yr dealing with poverty on the level that pakistan is, and government corruption, and all around instability. basic literacy is a problem, along with a whole lot of people who don't know where their next meal is going to come from. there are pakistani muslims putting their lives in danger to help this woman. they recognize how wrong this is. so it's not as though they're completely starting from scratch. but they've got their work cut out for them, no doubt.

the problem hasn't necessarily been fully corrected here either-a very valid argument can be made that in some ways it still happens, just in a more sophisticated manner than dragging black men out of their beds in the middle of the night. the us justice system is still very, very skewed when it comes to minorities and impoverished people. that's the point that other posters have brought up as well. so the smugness should really be taken down a few notches.

Boo hoo. Who needs you to constantly remind us life ain't fair? Not me, I've done my part to fix it. If you're so appalled, do something about it instead of just b!tching and acting like a jerk.
