I don't think any reasonable person would endorse killing someone over blasphemy. The problem is that the comments in these threads go beyond condemnation of isolated acts.

Of course if I were to say that the death penalty in the christian usa is sick, backwards and disgusting, i wonder how many American Christians would object to being charcterised that way...

Well, to be fair, we don't issue the death penalty for crimes such as blasphemy. You can't really compare. That said, I think the death penalty is sick and wrong, even for murder.

That is a really bad analogy. It is 2010.

that really is the point we have evolved because of your length of time being a free country Pakistan is a very young country that came to be out of India if you think this is bad you should see how people in Kashmir India are forced to live and that is a topic that of course is completely different than this one but the crimes against humanity are just as bad as is what is being done to these people in Pakistan.

Just my opinion

Ah but if someone were so inclined they could make out that the death penalty is a Christian thing. After all, how many times have we heard the old chestnut that the us belongs to Christians?

True. "An eye for an eye" does come from the bible, right?

You tend to confuse calling you on your more ridiculous posts with 'demanding' anything of you. Much as you conflate statements on specific issues into blanket commentary on the entire Muslim population in the world.

Back to topic, the death penalty being imposed for blaspheme of Islam, in the Muslim nation of Pakistan is sick, backwards and disgusting. Yah I said it!

Your posts are ridiculous and hypocritical. You're also in deep denial about what you post. The death penalty is imposed for crimes that the state determines deserve it. There are plenty of complaints about imposing the death penalty in the US disproportionately due to race, gender, local, etc. If you can't condemn it for any crime, you lose credibilty for condemning it for a specific crime.

The same goes for abortion as a human rights crime against innocent babies.

So what? Believe it or not, not every country shares the same prosperity and level of development that the US enjoys....

Oppression and poverty still exist. Who knew?

Most laws are context dependent, otherwise anything that involved loss of human life would be murder.

All I said is the analogy was bad. You can't excuse a law of a country in the year 2010 because in the 1600s we burned witches

India, gun buyback and steamroll.

The context in this thread is how laws are offensive when they allow you to ignore the application of your own laws. We can't brag about our own application of the death penalty. To date, Pakistan has not executed anyone for blasphemy, but we have knowingly executed innocent people. Nothing to brag about.

But you can appreciate that "it's 2010" is meaningless to a country with living standards from the 16th.
