Hopefully we can get some quick help on here...

My fiance lives in Belfast and will need to fly home after his interview Tuesday. But the embassy will be keeping his passport... this presents obvious problems. He does not have a license (he doesn't drive) and the national ID card is not yet available in NI. We were under the impression (from his stepmother with family that immigrated to australia) that he will be given a temporary card to use for identification... any one have any information about this at all? Thanks!!!!

in countries where the passport is needed for going back to the home country ( like iranians who go to any embassy that handles our cases, and iraqis who go to turkey or countries of that sort ) they wont keep the passport or any other identification unless the beneficiary will receive the visa right away.

dig around the regional forum and US embassy forum to see if its the same for european consulates

My fiance had a flight after the interview to Scotland and he was using Flybe...they said he could use his work ID because it had his photo and was from a well-known company (HSBC).

Dunno about the temporary ID thing...haven't heard about it.
